Job Description: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery OR Women's Center (L&D OR, Birth Center OR Circulator, Birth Center PACU, and OB ED)

Shift/Hours:

• Day shift: 7:00am - 7:30pm

• Night shift: 7:00pm - 7:30am

Weekend Requirement:

• Per six-week schedule, sign up for: 2 Fridays, 2 Saturdays, 2 Sundays and 2 Mondays

Holiday Requirement: Placed on a holiday track that requests the employees to work a certain number of holidays in a given calendar year as well as take on-call shifts. The tracks rotate so that individuals do not work or take call on the same holiday every year.

Call Requirement: On-call hours will be determined by the Scheduling team and will vary from schedule to schedule based on unit needs.

Responsibilities:

• Care for patients during labor, delivery, and recovery post-childbirth.

• Provide fast care and assessment or emergency services for patients during pregnancy or labor and delivery. Also partner with many private practice OB/GYNs and CNMs.

• Circulate C-sections on expectant mothers, working with Physicians and the support of Nursing Assistants and Surgical Technicians.

• Care for high risk antepartum and postpartum patients.

Pay Scale: Based on years of RN experience. Ranges from $29.25 - $59.74 per hour.

Must Haves:

License: NC RN License

Certifications: BLS & ACLS.

Experience: 1 year in Labor and Delivery. Competency for circulating for OR cases, PACU skills, triage, and fetal monitoring. Skilled in the recognition and nursing management of complications of labor and delivery.

*Preferred: If no L&D experience, prefer ICU or ED experienced RN. Certification in Fetal Monitoring, Charge Nurse, and Preceptor skills.

Education: Associates accepted; Must agree to enroll in BSN program within 4 years of being hired; Must complete BSN within 7 years.

About the Unit:

Number of beds:

• 3 Outpatient OBED Beds

• 20 Labor and Delivery Beds—Manage high risk antepartum, all labor, and high risk postpartum requiring a higher level of care than the PP unit is able to provide.

• 3 Operating Rooms (OR)

• 3 Recovery Rooms (PACU) Beds

Nurse to patient ratio: 1:1-2

Patient Population: Women of childbearing age who are 16 weeks or greater in gestation with actual or potential pregnancy-related problems are evaluated and/or treated on this unit.

Other clinicians on staff: 24/7 OB Hospitalist, Midwives, and Anesthesiologists; as well as Community Obstetricians delivering at UNC HEALTH Rex. An OB Surgical Technician is available to scrub in and assist the surgeon during a C/S delivery. Maternal Fetal Medicine consults are available onsite Monday-Friday.
