Job Description

Position: Lead Custodian

Program: Child Care and Pre-School

Supervised by: Program Director and Assistant Director

Status: FLSA Non Exempt – Full Time

General Purpose: In collaboration with the site supervisor, the lead custodian will supervise and coordinate work activities of the custodians at their designated Child Care and Pre-School sites and other establishments (as required). Assist in the training and supervision of the custodians and the upkeep of the MAOF child care facilities, grounds, and equipment. Lead Custodian will complete all major/minor building repairs (indoor and outdoor).

Responsibilities are, but not limited to:
  • Supervise the daily work of the custodians;
  • Inspect sites and work for completeness;
  • Determine material, equipment, and supplies to be used for repairs and special projects;
  • As required, transfer equipment from one facility to another;
  • Assist with the inspection of completed work to ensure conformance to standards;
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations;
  • Comply with all safety norms and regulations;
  • Keep records of all maintenance and service activities conducted and maintains maintenance logs;
  • Performs major building repairs (indoors and outdoors) (i.e. painting, patching walls, hardware, hanging shelves and landscaping);
  • Coordinates renovations of existing facilities and the construction of new facilities (as needed);
  • Participates in the hiring process (interviews and assess) of custodians;
  • Trains, supervises and participates in the evaluation process of the custodians;
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and materials;
  • Emergency response duties;
  • Attends all assigned meetings, trainings and in-services;
  • Maintains neat personal appearance;
  • Possession of a current and valid motor vehicle operator's license;
  • As assigned, carries out any other activities necessary for the proper
  • implementation of MAOF’s Program;
Requirements:
  • Physical and mental fitness to drive, and engage in supervisory and custodial work;
  • Negative T.B. test or chest X-ray (stated by law), negative drug and alcohol screen test. Must pass physical;
  • Must be fingerprinted (state law). DOJ/FBI Clearance ID Number must be active and on file;
  • Must have own transportation, valid California Driver License and required automobile insurance;
  • Must provide a current DMV printout and must have a good driving record;
  • Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with fellow employees and vendors/contractors;
  • Ability to install, inspect, repair and maintain facilities according to health and safety regulations;
  • Ability to perform various maintenance and or construction tasks as needed;
  • Ability to drive and travel to different facilities;
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends, as needed;
  • Ability to update inventories and other supplies as needed;
  • Ability to maintain cooperative, diplomatic working relationships with co-workers and supervisors; work as part of a team and collaborate with department; and complete projects under tight deadlines even when there are completing requirements and changes in assignments;
  • Ability to understand complex written and oral instructions;
  • Ability to use safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties.
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years experience in general maintenance or other maintenance responsibilities that would include the ability to recognize electrical, plumbing, and mechanical malfunctions or equipment failures.
