Job description
The Learning & Development (L&D) Manager is responsible for the overall design, development and execution of the Otis College learning and development initiatives for staff employees. In this role, you will work with subject matter experts (SMEs), external vendors, and human resources colleagues to design, deliver and evaluate innovative and effective learning solutions to build the skills and capabilities our staff employees at each stage of their career.
Location Los Angeles, CA (Westchester) Essential Duties Summary
  • Manage and continuously improve the learning and development curriculum and end-to-end design, development, and delivery of blended-learning initiatives
  • Work independently with internal subject matter experts (SMEs), human resources colleagues, and external vendors to design, develop, and deliver solutions which would include coaching, multi-day in-person events, webinars, online learning, and on-the-job experiences
  • Manage end-to-end program operations including budget, communications, program delivery, and evaluation
  • Use evaluation data to measure impact and improve learning initiatives; continuously assess delivery process improvement opportunities
  • Facilitate in-person and virtual training sessions
  • Create and conduct new hire orientation classes
  • Develop knowledge base for employees to access pertinent information
  • Leverage existing L&D vendor relationships as well as evaluate and source new resources and tools
  • Uses an evidence-based approach to employee development activities by performing needs assessments using a variety of sources to identify gaps in training, skills, and performance, and by evaluating and analyzing L&D programs to ensure alignment with actual needs and organizational goals
  • Assists with career path development and planning, identifying relevant competencies, and helping employees set career goals and manage career expectations
  • Program Planning and Development
  • Recommends program metrics to identify success with various initiatives within the program
  • Oversees the administrative program tasks and ensures they are completed on time, are accurate, and that current information is being used
  • Needs Analysis
  • Monitors learning and development best practices in connection with the College strategic plan and makes recommendation to VP, Human Resources
  • Understands the interconnectivity, or lack thereof, of stakeholder needs and prioritizes the importance of each stakeholder’s needs
  • Facilitation
  • Creates program content to achieve desired learning at the division, department, team or unit level
  • Understands when the group is off track and redirects the conversation toward the task at hand
  • Guides the discussion of complex or divisive issues to help members develop insights and remain engaged with the task
  • Judges when issues cannot be resolved in the group and refocuses the dialogue on the essential goals
Guides individuals to reach a predetermined outcome with little or no contribution from the facilitator
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or another relevant discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a learning & development or organizational development role.
  • Experience with assessment and psychometric tools (DiSC, Myers-Briggs, Strengths Finder 2.0, Thomas-Kilmann model, etc.).
  • Minimum of 5 years of L&D related experience in a complex organization required; including demonstrated involvement with building high-performing teams and fostering an inclusive culture; experience in higher education environment preferred.
  • Experience with adult learning principles and learning curriculum and content design and development in multiple learning modalities; ability to facilitate online and in-person learning sessions.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Learning Management Systems and webinar platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Windows, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications
1. Adult Learning/Education certification.
2. Higher Ed experience.
3. Masters in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or another relevant discipline.
