Job Summary

The Early Literacy Specialist will work with the Youth Services Librarian to develop programs and services for young children and their caregivers. Duties will include planning and implementing age-appropriate programming with emphasis on early literacy; administrative support work (i.e. organizing materials, shelving, filling displays, assisting patrons with questions and accessing library collections, assisting with library equipment); assisting coworkers in other units of the library, making recommendations for changes to youth programming, serving as ambassador for the Chatham County Public Libraries at community events; other duties as assigned. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate Degree or higher in early childhood or elementary education, library youth services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Excellent technology skills including computer operation and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail programs; the ability to operate a cash register and make change; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and must be self-motivated and comfortable working independently. Spanish/English bilingual speaker preferred.

Special Requirements

Must have a valid NC Driver’s License.

Salary:

Salary Grade 56: $34,482
