Job description

Under general supervision, performs various data entry tasks related to library collection maintenance; answers

basic phone inquires; and, repairs damaged books and audiovisual materials.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Ability to perform various data entry tasks relating to collection maintenance, such as, check-in of periodicals, discharge of returned materials, item record maintenance related to new items and withdrawn items; and, entry of item records for new paperbacks.

2. Ability to perform basic stacks maintenance tasks, including but not limited to: shelving of returned and new items; searches for lost, missing or overdue items; retrieval and processing of holds requests; and, verifying the accuracy of shelving.
3. Ability to answer basic phone queries relating to the status of items and routing requests for reference/research information to customer service staff.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

4. Ability to repair damaged books and audiovisual material.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Basic knowledge of automated circulation system functions.

Basic knowledge of how library materials and information sources are organized.
Basic knowledge of Dewey Decimal System classification and alpha-numeric filing system.

Skill in utilizing Windows based (multi-tasking) software.

Skill in adapting to changes and upgrades in computer software.
Skill in working with others in a team approach.
Ability to easily adjust to fluctuating work levels and move within the library system as assigned.
Ability to exercise discretion with patron records.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (includes books and other materials)
Ability to push loaded book cart weighing up to 300 lbs.
Ability to move tables weighing up to 75 lbs.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED. Plus, six (6) months to one (1) year experience in a library environment. Pre-placement screening includes criminal history check, drug and alcohol testing, and physical.
