Performs direct nursing care as needed on the school bus and throughout the school day, including but not limited to: medication administration, tube feedings, urinary catheterization, suctioning, oxygen administration, seizure management, and diabetic management under the supervision of a District Nurse.

Implements nursing protocols, according to scope and standards of nursing license and following the student’s care plan as directed by the District Nurse.

Provides and supports hygiene care and mobility assistance, including implementing prescribed physical therapy or medical assistance/support as directed by a licensed healthcare professional.

Maintains required and necessary nursing documentation on student interventions and care.

Works with classroom teachers, District Nurse, and other staff to plan routines, programs, assignments, and special projects.

Communicates student needs and progress and follows up on medical concerns with families and the District Nurse.

Supports students during transportation to and from school as a bus rider.

Demonstrates knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act and practices within the LPN’s scope of practice.

Uses personal safety techniques to avoid exposure and injury to self, students, and other staff.

Handles highly confidential matters in a professional manner, respecting the privacy of students, staff, and parents.

Maintains positive working relationships with coworkers, district colleagues, and families.

Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
-
Attends staff development classes and other team meetings.
-
Operates and maintains specialized nursing/medical equipment and office equipment.

LPN license to practice in the state of Oregon.

High school diploma or G.E.D.
-
Fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Oregon drivers’ license and insurance.
-
First Aid and CPR certification and ability to obtain various certificates, licenses, and/or registrations as required by federal, state, or local law(s) and/or determined by the district.

Experience in a public school setting working with special needs and/or medically fragile students preferred.

Position Description
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide a wide range of health-related services to students in a bus, school, and classroom setting. Tasks included individual focused assessments, implementation of health plans, performing medical care and interventions, dispensing medication, and documentation, as well as general school educational tasks. This position will work with the Health Services nurse team and take direction from the District Nurse.
