Veterinary Wellness Center is reimagining how small animal, non-emergency veterinary medicine is done in the Rio Grande Valley and we’re looking for a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team! Responsibilities:

• Take accurate notes and medical history of patients in exam rooms for doctor
• Conduct exams and diagnostic procedures
• Complete laboratory tests and study diagnostic imaging
• Educate clients on the importance of quality, comprehensive medical care for their pet
• Prepare estimates/ invoices and reviewing them with clients
• Be familiar with infectious and common zoonotic diseases; including prevention, and the steps to reduce or eliminate transmission
• Assist the doctor in surgical procedures
• Place catheters
• Assist in restraining pets in a manner that allows necessary procedures to be done with minimal stress to patients, and ensure safety of patients and people
• Assist with dental cleanings/extractions
• Anticipate the needs of the doctor for routine exam/surgery visits; follow doctor’s requests to fill or refill medications
• Take temperatures, samples, vitals as requested by the doctor; draw up vaccines, flea/tick medication/prevention, etc.
• Explain at-home responsibilities (administering medication, behavior training, etc.) to clients in detail
• Administer medications, injections, vaccines and anesthesia
• Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sanitizing exam rooms/kennels, sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing operating areas, verifying shelf life of medications, and complying with legal regulations.
• Advocate for the health and safety of all our patients
• Regular attendance, punctuality and accurate time-keeping.
• Professional, respectful interaction with clients, supervisors and coworkers.
• Ability to communicate well in English and Spanish, and use problem-solving skills to assist clients.

Requirements:

• Experience preferred but not required
• Credentialed Veterinary Technician
• AS or BS in Veterinary Technology
• Some surgery experience highly preferred
• Knowledge of computers, practice management softwares and phone etiquette
• Experience with low stress handling and/or Fear Free Certification
• Excellent communication skills
• Bilingual Preferred — written and verbal language skills
• Experience with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, labwork, radiology, anesthesia and pharmacology highly preferred
• Knowledge of animal behavior
• Full time, 30-36 hour work week
• No weekends or Holidays

Job Type: Full-time
