Elementary Part Time Program Teacher
Reports to the K-12 Science and Little Creek Coordinator (Eric Hadley)
- $30 per hour
- Teach grade level nature based programs/lessons at Little Creek.
- Focus will be on PreK through 5th grade
- Lessons are prepared by Little Creek Staff, the person in this position will implement the lessons with fidelity to specific grade level classes.
- Lessons will be implemented most often outdoors to emphasize the natural world around them. The programs often involve a lot of walking on uneven terrain.
- Participate in training for each grade level program including observing and being observed by Little Creek staff
- The lessons taught help support Ferguson Florissant School District’s science, math, ELA and social studies standards and curriculum where applicable and appropriate to support the learning of their natural world around them.
- The person in this position will be routinely evaluated in the following areas through observations and teacher surveys:
- Keeping students engaged and safe
- Encouraging critical thinking
- Creating a positive learning environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Organizational skills and multi-task flexibility.
- Discretion in managing confidential information.
- Comfortable working outdoors/indoors with large groups of children and around animals.
- Excellent human relations skills.
- CPR and First Aid training preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to details
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 60 hours of college credit hours.
- Classroom teaching early childhood through fifth grade preferred.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects
- Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
- The work setting involves performance in both indoor and outdoor classroom environments with various levels of staff and students.
- Work conditions often feature demands to address conditions, problems, and conflicts that involve students, staff, and parents with diverse backgrounds and needs.
- Work conditions also included the handling of domestic and wild animals as part of the instructional program.
