Job Summary:
- The LS Technical Operator, in conjunction with LS Supervisor, LS Technical Manager, and Lead Technical Operators, is responsible for: on-air distribution and quality of all media for various channels and media platforms that LS serves in the present & future;
- The LS Technical Operator contributes to departmental process and procedure guidelines; provides assistance in technical problem resolution as needed and within scope; maintains accurate descriptions, gives prompt and effective communication and reporting to all key interfaces, and/or technical staff when there are technical issues, conflicts, or problem assets by following department procedures and guidelines of the company and department.
- The LS Technical Operator reports directly to the LS Supervisor.
- There are no direct reports to this position.
Essential Job Functions:The LS Technical Operator is accountable for the following functions, tasks, systems, and channels that LS serves in the present & future:
- Prep, sub-clip, ingest, encode, up/download, test, and capture all media and distribute to all media platforms by deadlines established. This includes, but not limited to:
- Verifying program format/segment time sheets against traffic and automation logs and revised schedules; administer replacements, or reconciliation of ad insertion or program schedules to resolve gaps and overrun conflicts;
- Contacting live/tape delayed, internal and external media delivery personnel and sources to successfully broadcast, track, or distribute media delivery; order missing media; verifying start times; coordinate with live event directors; accurately do a 2:00 countdown for live event; and maintaining accurate military time with a 24 hour clock;
- Resolving on-air problems and/or performing equipment troubleshooting for the various systems, channels, devices, and networks within the scope of the Technical Operator function, department guidelines, or with guidance from LS Technical Manager or Supervisor as needed;
- Operating all devices/equipment/software for recording, routing, switching and monitoring daily delivery schedules and play-to-air or live schedules including manually switching & cueing programs, ad insertion, fill, graphics, crawls, bugs to air as needed for the various systems, channels and networks;
- Operating and tuning, within scope, satellite downlink, fiber optic, IP, LiveU etc. receiving equipment for live and tape delay events for the various platforms, channels and networks LS serves; LS Technical Operations Manager must be notified for out-of-scope issues;
- QC all media’s audio/video, pre- and post-distribution, for: quality, timing accuracy, and content per FCC, Buckeye, BCSN, and LS regulations, procedures, and guidelines;
- Reporting all, out of scope, outstanding problems or deviancy with equipment to LS Supervisor and Technical Manager;
- VOD, or other off-air media, asset management, scheduling, verifying, and QC;
- Creating back-up programming disks and spot reels as assigned;
- Operating and managing archival processes for Buckeye Broadband Ad Sales;
- Assisting with shipping/receiving functions of media and equipment as assigned;
- Completing various paperwork responsibilities including: Affidavit of Performance, Pre-Emption, Broadcast or Troubleshooting Reports; TRTs; etc. as needed;
- Adhering to FCC regulations; including, but not limited to, verification of Closed Captioning, Syndex-Non Dupe black outs, CALM Act, inserting bugs; copyright laws; etc;
- Adhering to the company and departmental practices, policies, guidelines and procedures at all times;
- Performing miscellaneous duties and functions as assigned.
Job Requirements:Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent - required
- Prior work experience as a MC Operator or equivalent computer/broadcast experience - required
- Associate or Bachelor Degree in Broadcasting or SBE Certification (Society of Broadcast Engineers), Electronics, Engineering, or a related field - preferred
- Knowledge of editing and switching equipment - required
