LOGISTICS MANAGER
JOB SUMMARY: Provide assistance to all JSI facilities by managing the logistics of incoming and outgoing freight by finding the best values in service and costs while maintaining minimal freight damage.
DUTIES:
- Provide accurate and on-time delivery of customer orders by collaborating with the Plant Manager and customer service teams
- Maximize customer freight dollars by coordinating and consolidating incoming and outgoing orders using preferred carriers
- Provide supervision and technical support for each shipping / receiving department
- Determines appropriate packaging to achieve zero freight damage
- Establish written shipping and logistic procedures
- Establish a relationship with freight carriers to maximize efficiency, and profits while minimizing cost
- Ensures that employees observe and comply with OSHA and JSI safety regulations and with state and federal transportation regulations
- Assists in training and/or interacting with team members to help meet established goals and standards
- Reports directly to the VP of Operations
- Attend, as requested, meetings to keep abreast of corporate needs and policies
- Review and approve or deny all incoming and intercompany freight bills.
- Assist and educate purchasing managers to help reduce incoming freight cost
- Other duties that may be assigned on an as-required basis
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assures that employees follow procedures detailed in the Company Handbook and in other policy documents, and follows all Safety Rules and Regulations, including federal and state transportation rules and regulations
- Maintains a safe work environment, making certain that anyone around the workstations will not be in jeopardy to injury
- Demonstrates a professional attitude when approaching work assignments and when working with outside vendors (freight carriers, etc.)
- Displays an awareness to maximize the utilization of materials and to minimize waste of materials
- Analyze and maintain close control of manufacturing labor and material costs
- Displays a sense of urgency towards completing assigned tasks
- Assists in developing solutions to problems
- Assures the quality of work produced is acceptable to company standards and specifications
- Performs job tasks with Worker Safety Being The Priority
- Maintains good attendance
DELIVERABLES:
- Implement a live tracking system that is accessible 24 hours a day by customer, customer service and sales to make freight in-transit visible at all times.
- Create a process that provides freight quotes to customer service within four hours of requests and/or develop a generic freight quote spreadsheet that covers 90% of typical requests from sales and customer service.
- Develop relationships with brokers and 3rdparty carriers to ensure on-time and accurate delivery at minimal costs.
- Develop a freight claims process with each facility that ties to the freight carriers.
- Review existing freight contracts and agreements
- Provide a strategy for negotiating new agreements
- Ensure that freight margins are reviewed monthly with Finance and continue to improve our margin.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a four-year degree in Business Administration, or have commensurate work experience
- Ability to understand and interpret bills of lading, freight bills, other shipping related documents and state and federal transportation rules and regulations
- Possess good verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
- Possess proven Human Relations skills
- Ability to manage multi tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Capable of learning new skills as needed
- Must be detail oriented
