Reports to: Facilities and Operations Director
Time and Pay: Part-Time 25 hours/week $13/Hour

Under the supervision of the Facilities Director, the Part-Time Custodian makes sure that all areas of the building are kept clean and orderly. This would apply to areas inside as well as outside the main building. The custodian is responsible for all restrooms, locker rooms, office spaces, hallways, and fitness areas inside the building. Also, all areas outside the building, including sidewalks, natural common areas, and outside fitness areas. May complete duties related to small maintenance repairs, meeting set up, and other related duties as assigned.

They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

Essential Functions:

  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with members, participants, staff, and leadership.
  • Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintaining the upkeep of the assigned area and equipment. May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
  • Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  • Assists with various maintenance-related tasks and requests.
  • Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
  • Ensures YMCA building and property are secure during shift and reports incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
  • Replaces soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and other supplies
  • May set up furniture for events.
  • Be available to work nights and weekends to ensure shifts are filled and staff on each shift are supported on an as-needed basis.
  • Responsible for inventory and stocking supplies needed for maintaining facility readiness.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Six months or more of related experience is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  • Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Ability to work independently, plan, and organize.
  • Must be certified by the YMCA in basic life support/First aid within the first 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to safely use a variety of hand tools
  • Skills and experience in basic maintenance repairs.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.

  • Ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet
  • Compliance with all COVID-related PPE, cleaning, reporting, and prevention efforts.
