Job description
PURPOSE:
To maintain plant facility and equipment by using resources and tools available. To obtain and practice knowledge for plant Operations and assist other mechanics in operational and maintenance needs.
SUMMARY:
Continually improve processes and equipment throughout the plant and grounds. Perform preventative maintenance to maximize the efficiency of all plant processes using record keeping, knowledge, skills and effective communications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. All of the following are to be performed while adhering to Tree Top operational policies, safety rules, procedures and good manufacturing practices.
It is the responsibility of every employee at Tree Top Inc. to report food safety and food quality problems or risks to personnel with the authority to initiate action against these said possible risks. The Organization chart indicated key personnel with the authority to take action.

- Maintain Equipment and Parts:
- Monitor equipment and machinery to locate and identify parts that need repaired or replaced
- Ensure proper operation of equipment and machinery, including but not limited to: boilers, conveyors, Urschels, dryers, sorters, Atlas peelers, and packaging equipment according to written procedures
- Lubricate equipment and machinery as required
- Ensure proper electrical integrity of systems
- Ensure proper operation of air compressor according to written procedures
- Perform Process Improvement:
- Monitor processes to identify areas of opportunity for improvement
- Improve conveyor, pickup, and reject systems to increase efficiencies
- Perform special projects as required
- Repair and/or Rebuild Equipment or Machinery as Required:
- Identify needed repairs
- Rebuild Atlas and Urschels corresponding parts and equipment as needed
- Utilize all maintenance tools/equipment/materials appropriately
- Ensure that repairs are cost effective
- Make repairs in timely manner
- Follow GMP, SQF and Food Safety requirements when making repairs
- Perform Preventative Maintenance:
- Detect and correct problems; Identify root causes
- Identify causes of premature breakdowns
- Proactively identify possible trouble areas
- Lubricate equipment and machinery as required
- Perform adjustments to equipment and machinery as required
- Perform Atlas Peeler maintenance according to manufacturer requirements
- Perform line mechanic duties for all plant equipment and machinery
- Complete Paperwork:
- Complete log entries and update immediately following service
- Complete parts usage sheet
- Fill out work orders for work completed or needed with proper documentation of time, parts and findings/repairs.
- Fill out parts order section at bottom of shift report
- Complete daily shift reports
- Communicate Effectively:
- Communicate with mechanics, operators, co-workers, and supervisors
- Exchange information with supervisors and co-workers regarding current operational conditions, work-in-progress, etc.
- Assist other mechanics by sharing skills and knowledge
- Listen to and understand instructions in English in order to perform daily tasks as assigned; ask appropriate questions to clarify instructions
- Read and understand information in English to properly repair and maintain equipment and machinery, operate tools safely, and follow all workplace safety and food safety rules and regulations
- Communicate with quality personnel regarding customer requirements, food safety, etc.
- Attend Maintenance Meetings
- Respond to Maintenance Requests:
- Maintain equipment as required
- Assist other mechanics as needed
- Assist technicians when repairs are needed
- Industrial and Food Safety
- Follow proper Lock Out/Tag Out procedures/standards
- Follow all Haz-Com and Chemical Safety procedures/standards
- Follow all Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) procedures and standards
- Follow all Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures/standards
- Wear required and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment at all times
- Identify and address all unsafe conditions and unsafe acts – Report to Supervisor on shift
- Follow all other applicable safety rules and regulations
- Other Duties as Assigned
- Operate forklift, scissor-lift, etc. as required
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

SKPP
- Must meet specific qualifications detailed in SKPP: Plant Specific, Skill Block, Performance standards and other criteria.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and six months to one-year position-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of electrical control systems and troubleshooting knowledge and/or experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read, write, and speak and understand in English, in order to interpret documents such as specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Required: Forklift Certification
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Required during production duties:
- Hair Net
- Bump Cap
- Rubber Gloves
- Hearing Protection
- Particulate Respirator (N95)*
- Full-Face Respirator (For Ammonia Response)
- Whenever working in an area where respiratory protection is required
Additional PPE required during sanitation duties:
- Rain/Wet Gear
- Safety Glasses
- Rubber Boots
- Face Shield
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Employee must have training and/or certification in the following:
- Forklift Operation
- Fall protection
- Confined Space Training
