Job Summary

The manager of Maintenance & Reliability provides overall leadership to the maintenance department and is responsible for assuring that the facility and production equipment are properly maintained and designed to safely perform specified tasks in a cost-effective manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provides leadership and direction for plant's maintenance functions

· Ensure a safe working environment through employee training, tracking and accountability

· Ensure compliance and accountability for regulatory, Carlisle, & departmental policies, procedures, & standards (PSM, safety protocols, COS)

· Overall responsibility for and provides direction on preventative maintenance, maximization of equipment utilization, parts inventory control, concurrent engineering, project identification and justification, craftsmen development, process/machine troubleshooting, failure analysis, equipment design/fabrication/installation, fire/loss protection, and budget development and justification.

· Establishes direction for plant maintenance department to professionalize practices to reflect state-of-the-art developments in manufacturing maintenance engineering and management.

· Adhere to annual maintenance budget

· Expected to understand interrelationship between machine functioning and proposed equipment projects with company's "cost of goods sold" results.

· Directly manages maintenance team which can include Supervisors, Leads and hourly maintenance technicians. Management responsibilities include hiring, terminating, promoting, coaching, counseling, training, work prioritization, goal setting, and performance appraisal.

· Develop/modify systems to enhance productivity and/or reduce maintenance downtime/costs.

· Serves as SME (Subject Matter Expert) for electrical, mechanical and basic PLC.

· Understand and adhere to governmental guidelines and requirements related to employment labor laws.

· Assure that the equipment meets necessary safety characteristics as specified by various regulatory bodies (eg. Occupational Health & Safety Administration, National Fire Protection Association, industrial insurance carrier, etc.)

· Manages the specification, planning, justification and execution of capital projects and major maintenance activities.

· Supports project engineer acting as SME and liaison between departmental staff, the plant manager, other department managers, line supervisors and other plant personnel in matters relating to equipment design and functioning.

· Maintains liaison between production, quality and process engineering to improve process functioning by making justified equipment modifications and/or changes.

· Collaborate with R&D, Purchasing, Central Engineering and other departments as needed to better understand equipment capabilities/functions, especially as they relate to product/process requirements.

· Supports plant EHS Mgr. with waste management, pollution control and administrative requirements.

Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:

· Engineering principals and fundamentals - hydraulics, pumps, pneumatics, thermodynamics, electronics, industrial etc.

· Understanding of Capital project justification process.

· General understanding of hourly payroll system and of hourly personnel practices

· Business finance and accounting in general and how concepts relate to Carlisle Construction Materials

· Ability to lead, motivate and coach a team

· Understanding and knowledge of legal agency requirements (Environment Protection Agency, Clear Air Act, borough sewer discharge requirements, Occupational Health & Safety Administration, National Fire Protection Association, etc.).

· Basic understanding of general business principles (marketing, sales, cost accounting, etc.)

· Basic understanding of business law, especially as relates to vendor contracts

· Experience using Maintenance Management Software to prioritize work (CMMS a plus)

· Supervision of personnel to include: planning and directing work, disciplining, developing personnel, appraising performance, recruiting, hiring personnel, etc.

· Proficient with MS Office

· Experience with AutoCAD

· Strong written and verbal communication

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical field preferred or relevant industrial maintenance certifications/training

Prior experience leading industrial maintenance teams
