Job description
Primarily responsible for planning, coordinating, all of the quality assurance functions within the laboratory including the design and performance of quality assurance compliance audits of products and processes. Observe safety regulations, work practices, correct incorrect hazards or work practices immediately or reports them to supervisors. Establish the overall requirements for Quality Assurance specifications and standards for materials, processes and test reporting. Review product and process non-conformance and recommend remedial actions. Develop Quality Assurance plans and other required process control procedures to insure processes, work in progress and Laboratory systems meet CLIA’88 standards for quality systems. Encourages professional growth and development of staff. Plans and implements the overall laboratory policies, procedures, and services. Ensures efficient and effective departmental operations. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or an associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or meet grandfather requirements under CLIA’88 personnel requirements

Minimum of five (5) years experience in a medical laboratory required. Finger and manual dexterity to handle small equipment; verbal ability to communicate with patients. Clerical accuracy in labeling specimens and completing requisitions for reference laboratories. Precision and accuracy to perform Laboratory procedures. Keen judgment to evaluate information against measurable criteria in the performance of tests. Visual acuity to read instructions and examine specimens. Form perception and color discrimination to identify cells and micro-organisms. Manual dexterity to operate equipment. Guide the Section Supervisor in resolving equipment problems, oversees the teaching and evaluation of students and new employees and has expertise with specific Laboratory procedures or Laboratory instrumentation.

Registration as an MT(ASCP) or equivalent preferred
