Summary

The third-party carrier manager manages the setup, local scheduling and everyday operations that facilitate the maximization of resources to achieve efficient load delivery, customer satisfaction, and the companys financial goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage, supervise, and direct the daily activities of third-party carriers in assigned locations to maximize scheduling, customer satisfaction and utilization of resources
  • Monitor quality assurance throughout the fuel delivery process and troubleshoot any issues that require escalation
  • Triage and address carrier problems and delivery issues as needed
  • Assist Vice President of Logistics in implementing and improving operational systems, processes, and policies in support of the organizations mission; assist with long term planning
  • Work as a team with Offens logistics, sales, accounting, and supply departments
  • Build and maintain third-party carrier profiles, including managing carrier COIs, carrier agreements, freight rate databases, coverage maps, and contact lists
  • Help maximize the profitability of the logistics department by building out daily carrier capacity for sales
  • Implement policies and enforce them consistently
  • Champion efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures, and the implementation of changes as they pertain to areas of responsibility
  • Work with third-party carriers to ensure that delivery paperwork is received in a timely manner
  • Work with Accounts Payable team (AP) to ensure timely payments and AP invoice accuracy
  • Develop a score card and report on the overall effectiveness of third-party carriers monthly
  • Manage existing and develop new vendor relations and strive for continuous improvement on pricing and service
  • Negotiate contract freight rates and carrier agreements
  • Manage existing and develop new freight-only customer relationships
  • Frequent out of state travel to the various operational centers and carrier partner locations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a related area and 5+ years of experience in a related industry
  • Experience with managing key customer and vendor relationships and following through on new opportunities
  • Strong customer focus and ability to balance multiple customer needs
  • Strong negotiating skills to optimize best price solutions
  • Excellent listening, negotiation and presentation skills
  • High level of written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment and decision making within the scope of authority
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, and attention to detail
  • The ability to implement policies and processes and enforce them
  • Ability to solve operational problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where minimal standardization exists

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

Work is typically performed in a standard office environment with frequent travel to operation centers and to carrier partner offices. Requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
