The Manager - Perioperative Services Business Operations coordinates and evaluates the operational and financial management activities of Perioperative Services to identify opportunities to improve operations and reduce costs while optimizing revenue generating opportunities. This includes perioperative data reporting, scheduling management, budget development, evaluating billing and expenses, business plan development for new services, and evaluating vendor managements.

  • Bachelor’s degree in hospital administration, business administration, or health-related field required. Master’s Degree in Business, Health Administration, or other health-related field preferred.
  • Three years’ of progressively more responsible analytical experience with a focus on analyzing and generating business plans.
  • Knowledge of health system regulatory guidelines, standards and experience in healthcare setting strongly desirable.
  • Knowledge of and experience with computer applications specific to analysis, reporting and integration of data from source systems to report software.
  • Demonstrates intermediate to advanced skills of database, graphic and statistical software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and working knowledge of PowerPoint, Access or similar systems
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Working knowledge of financial and health care terminology, cost-benefit analysis and financial feasibility studies.
  • Knowledge of clinical and operational improvement processes, management information systems, reimbursement mechanisms, and health care policy and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated willingness to pursue leadership roles with increasing levels of accountability comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching, teaching and counseling skills, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others and to forge alliances and garner support.
  • Knowledge and experience in strategic and business planning, value analysis, and process improvement related activities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: *

  • Develop and implement results-oriented management reports/tools for each cost center in perioperative services and collaborate with staff and other departments to continually improve service and efficiencies.
  • Direct the development of financial and statistical data to support the director, department chiefs and managers. Reports include utilization, scheduling, clinical, operational, financial, and monthly dashboard reports.
  • Develop a cost management program by identifying opportunities to enhance revenue through new volume, new procedures/policies, inventory reduction, and loss/waste control. Support the value analysis process by identifying cost- effective alternatives, product standardization, management of expired products, and maximization of vendor agreements.
  • Establish and maintain goals, objectives, policies and procedures for the finance, scheduling and materials management of perioperative services.
  • Manage the scheduling processes and related policies and procedures, including the operating room block schedule, add-on cases, elective cases, and case duration policies.
  • Works closely with the managers relative to their budgets, capital purchases, purchased services, and service and maintenance agreements; and coordinates activities with the Supply Chain, Accounting, and Finance.
  • Oversees the patient charge coordinator and ensures revenue is captured, and timely transmission of charge and supply data across systems.
  • Coordinates physician relationships for Perioperative Services and acts as a liaison with surgeon practice leadership to ensure a collaborative business relationship.
  • Serves on Surgical Procedural Value Analysis Team (SPVAT) and works collaboratively with supply chain leadership to improve inventory processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
