POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Material Damage Appraiser I is a desk position responsible for reviewing vehicle damages to properly assess the damages and a complete a thorough, accurate, and competitive estimate or total loss inspection for Personal and Commercial lines policies for Property & Casualty (P&C) claims.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Write a fair and accurate estimate or total loss valuation based off photos
  • Evaluate and document the Actual Cash Value of any vehicle determined to be a total loss
  • Address customer concerns, provide appropriate solutions and alternatives, and follow up to ensure the resolution of claims issues
  • Answer calls from shops, networks, carriers, and vehicle owners, handling any questions and concerns
  • Complete all daily and monthly assignments in a timely manner
  • Completes appropriate oral, written, and on-line reports to reflect and supplement all file activity
  • Submit completed appraisal report and supporting documentation to the appropriate Claim Representative
  • Studies training manuals, insurance books, pamphlets, and company policies to keep updated on accepted claim practices
  • Maintain relations with our agency force and other professions in the auto repair and insurance industry
  • Mentors and trains newly hired appraisers
  • Supports workload surges and/or Catastrophe operations as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience
  • Typically requires 1-3 years of industry experience

Preferred or Specialized

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Prior P&C claim handling experience

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

  • Associate in Claims (AIC), or ICAR designations preferred
