SUMMARY

The Materials Handlers is responsible for operating a forklift to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count wheels, axles and rails. The Materials Handler is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle and may also be required to perform Order Filler and Checker duties.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations.
  • Efficiently stack and store the merchandise in the appropriate areas.
  • Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage. Report quality variances.
  • Load and unload products using forklift trucks and other material handling equipment.
  • Maintain the facility's equipment and materials in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
  • Inspect and perform minor maintenance on the forklift or other equipment on a daily bases.
  • Identify and report faulty equipment, damages, and safety concerns to Supervisor immediately
  • Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
  • Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse.
  • Conduct operations in a manner that promotes safety. Comply with OSHA and MSDS Standards.
QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • The Materials Handler requires satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.
  • Familiarity with material handling and radio frequency equipment is needed.
  • Required ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Equipment/Tools used: Forklifts (including special use lifts such as wheel carrier, rotating forks, etc.), band cutters, tape measure and 2-way radio
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with all employees.
  • Goal-oriented.

Education and Experience
  • Experience working in a shop around noise, dust, and all types of weather.
  • Experience with enclosed cab, heated doors removed during hot weather
  • Up to 2 years of related experience preferred.
