Position Summary
As part of a newly funded National Science Foundation grant under the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program, UNT Dallas has established a STEM Center to increase the personal and professional resources available to our undergraduate STEM majors and to support the Bridges Across Texas (BAT-LSAMP) Scholarship program. Part of these resources include a tutor dedicated to mathematics courses.
Typical duties will include:
  • Scheduling tutoring appointments.
  • Tutoring UNTD undergraduate students in mathematics courses, such as:
    • MATH 1314; Algebra for STEM Majors
    • MATH 1316; Trigonometry
    • MATH 1342; Elementary Probability and Statistics
    • MATH 2413; Calculus I
  • Maintaining records of students tutored.
  • Attending and completing mandatory trainings.
  • Creating resources for students such as handouts, videos, podcasts, etc.
  • Following appropriate safety procedures and security measures related to work performed.

Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled UNT Dallas, UNT Dallas College of Law, HSC or UNT student in good standing and making satisfactory progress toward completion of a degree or certification program. Applicants must possess the following:
  • Having earned a “B” or better in MATH 2413; Calculus I (or equivalent).
  • Excellent customer service skills, as well as effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Some knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Responsible, reliable, and punctual.
  • Ability to learn assigned tasks readily, to adhere to prescribed routines, and to develop some skill in the operation of common office equipment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Having earned an “A” or better in MATH 2413; Calculus I (or equivalent).
  • Fluency in Spanish or another other language in addition to English.
