Job description

Responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection and accuracy of all natural gas measurement and control equipment. Approximate area of responsibility reaches from North Aurora, IL to Zion, IL. This includes a variety of natural gas pipeline electronic flow measurement (EFM) equipment, including but not limited to RTU, gas chromatographs, SCADA equipment, regulators, relief valves, electronic and pneumatic controllers, transmitters, orifice meters, turbine meters, ultrasonic meters and positive displacement meters. Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, policies, regulatory and tariff requirements. Maintain acceptable DOT Operator Qualifications Compliance on related/assigned tasks. Perform frequent audits of custody transfer and control data equipment. Required to respond to after hour “call outs” due to equipment and/or operational problems and must be willing to work overtime on an as needed basis.

  • Successful candidate will be provided with a company vehicle for work and commuting.
  • Company will provide PPE work attire and job related tools and equipment.
  • Company will provide paid on-the-job training.
  • Entry level candidate is eligible to receive 120 hours of prorated paid time off (PTO).
  • Position is eligible for approved overtime pay and paid call-outs. Paid call-out rate is 1.5 times the hourly rate for a minimum of 2 hours if site work is required.
  • Position is eligible for a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off.
  • The pay rate starts at $36.20 per hour. Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set.

Position Requirements


  • Ability to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, document and complete work with minimal supervision.
  • Calibrates EFMs and other natural gas measurement equipment.
  • Maintains company assigned vehicle and equipment in good operating condition.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to stay on assigned, regulatory, tariff and contractual schedule.
  • The ability to work from written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be proficient in computer software applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Windows) and be able to analyze data using spreadsheets.
  • Ability to actively support the region’s safety program.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic, electronic and electrical equipment and controls.
  • Ability to perform basic mechanical work associated with natural gas facilities.
  • Required to maneuver up to 100 pound products with the assistance of safety devices such as bottle carts or hand carts.
  • Required to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have a driving record acceptable to company standards.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details and follow work rules, as well as, take on additional job responsibilities as needed.
  • Must be available for and provide emergency response after regular business hours which may require carrying a personal communication device.
  • Travel is required and anticipated inside and outside of the assigned area.
  • Candidates with experience in a related field or discipline who do not possess the above requirements will be considered. The successful candidate will be provided on-the-job training and must pass progressive testing over a 48 month period from a level 1 technician to a level 4 technician. Candidates with higher levels of skill and experience may be brought on at a level 2 or higher.

Educational Requirements:

  • Must possess an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science, two year technical degree, or equivalent skills and work experience.


Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge: (above the minimum requirements; not required, but advantageous in this position)

  • Experience with natural gas pipeline flow computers, instrumentation such as pressure transmitters, gas chromatographs, gas quality analyzers, SCADA equipment, electronic and pneumatic controllers, regulators, water bath indirect heaters, regulators and all natural gas meter types.
  • Knowledge of AGA, API and GPA standards.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code philosophies and installation requirements.
  • Experience with computer interface software, networking and data file management.
  • Knowledge of the tariffs and specified operating agreements for natural gas measurement facilities.
  • Experience with Maximo work order tracking is a plus.
