This is a hybrid position.

Position Summary: Responsible for design development, modeling and documentation for product design and enhancements. Perform mechanical part design and product change design as assigned. Work may include new designs, prototype development and testing. Responsible for complete documentation of new product designs and existing product revisions to be released through ERP system processes, primarily the documentation of parts/assemblies and processes required for manufacturing. Assist the engineering team by modeling new designs on 3D CAD and provides input/solutions to new designs. Work includes documenting and specifying component design and details with 3D and 2D files.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work with Product Development team to define the function and appearance of new parts. Designs new parts using a variety of materials and processes including molding, casting, die/laser cutting and CNC machining.
• Work with Manufacturing and Service to assure the manufacturability and serviceability of new and changed designs.
• Create detailed documentation and assembly drawings of new designs to be used by vendors and manufacturing assembly team using CAD tools and other documentation systems.
• Create, evaluate, and test prototypes of new or revised electrical and mechanical parts designed, providing documentation of the results to support the manufacturing and quality systems.
• Collaborate with engineering team, marketing, vendors, and contractors on ideas and concepts for initial design and detailed parts for the product design.
• Design new parts with the safety of the end user as the highest priority, to be functional as dictated by the Product Definition of the product in which it will be used, maintaining cost-effectiveness while delivering aesthetically pleasing designs with customer appeal.
• Strive for innovation by learning new processes and procedures to complete projects assigned and looks for opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Good working knowledge of industrial design.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including internal and external domestic and international partners.
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
• Strong decision-making and judgment skills.
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes (i.e., injection molding).
• Strong attention-to-detail/accuracy skills.
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.
• Ability to visualize and communicate product ideas and solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt to new processes.
• Ability to incorporate the needs of the end users into designs.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of two years of experience in CAD (computer aided design) and/or industrial design.
• Experience with 3D molding and SolidWorks or SolidEdge preferred.
• Experience in the medical products industry preferred.
