Position Title: Mechanical Technician Position Location: Naknek, AK Reports to: Construction & Project Managers

FLSA Status: Temporary, Non-Exempt
Compensation: $20 - 26/hr. starting wage plus food, housing, and completion bonus
Term: 3/1/23 – 6/15/23

SUMMARY

Northline Seafoods is seeking a Mechanical Technician to support construction of our processing barge in Naknek, AK. The chosen candidate will be expected to work approximately 60 hrs/week depending on project requirements. Housing, food and transportation costs are covered by the Company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of heavy mechanical equipment such as generators, pumps, cranes, ventilation fans, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Installation of process plumbing, such as 6” PVC for water, threaded metal pipe for fuel, pex lines for compressed air, ducting for ventilation, basic household plumbing, and high-pressure hoses and fittings for hydraulics.
  • Installation of various mechanical and structural elements like valves, mufflers, strainers, brackets, conduit, shelving units, lights, and other miscellaneous items.
  • Safely operate various power tools including but not limited to grinders, drills, saws, pressure washer, plasma cutter, hose press, pipe threader, etc.
  • Competence operating forklifts and telehandlers preferred

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working on construction sites and/or shipyards highly preferred
  • Knowledge of construction site best practices and safety procedures preferred
  • Experience with manual and power tools
  • Highschool diploma/GED preferred
  • Must be dependable and punctual
  • Ability and willingness to follow instructions and be a team player

This job operates in an outdoor shipyard in rural Alaska. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particulars, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration, and/or foreign objects resulting from welding and grinding activities. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. The employee is regularly required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, twist and bend, as well as talk and hear. Employee must be able to work in confined spaces, possibly crouched for prolonged periods of time. The position requires the employee to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
