Job description
The Media Planner/Buyer is responsible for assisting with research, development and buying of tactical casino media plans for all forms of traditional media; TV and cable including digital platforms, AM/FM and digital radio, print both digital and hard copy versions and out of home static and digital units. Prepares weekly, on-going media plans, assists the Media Manager with on-going media objectives, strategies and rationale. Recommends ideal media outlets and negotiates better than market costs. Monitors budget, confirms accuracy of media placements and maintains quality control post-analysis.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Works with manager to identify media objectives and strategies; media plan budget, flight schedules, reach and frequency goals and recommends media strategies; identifies media classes, recommended day-parts and program types, includes general timing of media, weight and expected reach and frequency delivery.
- Develops budget allocation; explores pricing, prepares cost analysis for varying media mix scenarios, provides rationale and support research for planning decisions; formulates cost estimates, calculations and negotiates media buys; stays current with market cost fluctuations. Prepares post-buy evaluations.
- Analyzes media habits and usage of target audience and recommends media selections and rationale; researches, evaluates, analyzes qualitative/quantitative data and indices, inter/intra media comparisons and provides innovative media solutions that reach target audience effectively and efficiently.
- Researches and analyzes competitive data; timing, delivery and spending patterns, new product launches, target audience and considers findings as it relates to strategy recommendations.
- Develops, implements and optimizes media plans and flowcharts; prepares investment spending strategies, makes adjustments mid-stream as needed, tracks changes and disseminates revisions.
- Leverages business relationship network; finds and evaluates media opportunities, meets with sales representatives, managers and owners to deliver one of a kind, first to market and latest in the medium’s technology opportunities.
- Collaborates with marketing leaders and internal creative personnel to ensure media plans enhance the brand identity; provides direction to the production team and other marketing teams as needed.
- Prepares supportive materials; computation of rates, circulation analysis, closing dates, ratings and related information. Collects and evaluates media kits, and keeps them accessible for review. Oversees media contracts; develops pricing and service standards, explores alternative vendors.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
Education/Experience/Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in advertising, business, marketing or related analytical field required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in the media planning and buying field required, agency experience preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.
- Analytical problem solver and a desire to work with large sets of numbers and data; a high degree of accuracy is required.
- Proven negotiating, persuasion and influencing skills; uses a wide range of approaches, makes concessions when needed, works for win-win agreements. Listens carefully and remains calm.
- Advanced proficiency in industry ratings data, media buying software, qualitative and quantitative research and the ability to synthesize and analyze data in order to draw conclusions and identify trends.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite; Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.

- At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
