Job Description Summary

IHS: The Medical Assistant, or MA, provides Phlebotomy and insurance assistance for Medical and Behavioral Health.

CS: The Medical Assistant assists the Registered Nurse to provide on-going monitoring of
individuals served and their medical support to ensure they have the best health outcomes.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assisting physicians & nursing staff with patient care, clerical, EMR, environmental and organizational tasks.
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment.
  • Takes patient histories and vital signs.
  • Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments.
  • Gives injections, lab testing and Phlebotomy.
  • Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments.
  • Responsible for appointment scheduling, prior authorizations and chart management.
  • Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinic services.
  • A positive person who is reliable and able to work a flexible schedule with one evening.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • Graduate from a Medical Assisting training program.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Phlebotomy training, previous Lab experience
  • One year of experience in a physician office setting.

Employment Requirements:

  • Must provide evidence that incumbent is free of infectious and contagious disease, such as TB, prior to beginning employment and annually thereafter – expected for all direct care staff, but mandatory for RCF staff.
  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record and abuse/neglect.
  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.
  • All training requirements including Relias Learning at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical: moving, walking, balancing, kneeling, crouching, stooping, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling and lifting.
  • Mental: forecasting, analyzing, synthesizing, explaining, adapting, comprehending, interpreting data, organizational skills, public speaking, conflict resolution, active listening skills, and flexibility.
  • Sensory: full vision and hearing acuity.

CS:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Visit residential locations at least monthly as assigned by the Regional Director /CS Leadership.
  • Review Physician's orders, MARs, diets, Diet/Choking Precaution forms during visits.
  • Identify any additional medical training needs and communicate with the team.
  • Provide support to staff in communicating with Doctors, pharmacies and other medical specialists. Coordinate with Residential RN in regard to hospital visits, discharge planning and other medical needs.
  • Conduct Health and Medical reviews as instructed by the Regional Director. (At least all will be done quarterly and more often as necessary.)
  • Check to ensure Durable Medical Equipment is being serviced and maintained at least quarterly.
  • When required, accompanies the individual to medical appointments, etc., ensuring the individual's rights are protected and that he/she makes informed decisions.
  • Communicate with the agency team regarding health concerns (e.g. missed appointments, medications, diagnoses, etc.) and take appropriate action.
  • Review medications with pharmacies on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain a schedule of clients' scheduled Doctor appointments for medically fragile individuals and send reminders to staff taking those clients to appointments. (Medically fragile will be defined by the Regional Director and CS Leadership.)
  • Coordinate and assist with COVID testing as directed by the Regional Director.
  • Support medically involved individuals by working direct support if medical conditions require additional assistance.
  • Provide Direct Care hours if needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Regional Director/Assistant Regional Director.

  • Ability to operate calmly in a crisis, relate positively to funding sources, employees, those we serve, families and the medical community.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude when working with others.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program; OR,
  • Licensed Practical Nurse in applicable state.

Supervisory Requirements:

  • None

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record and abuse/neglect.
  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.
  • All training requirements including Relias Learning at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.
  • Must have current certification in CPR and First Aid.
