The target salary for this position starts at $19 per hour.


Position Summary


The Medical Biller 1 makes every reasonable effort to collect appropriate reimbursement for the provision of healthcare services rendered to the organization’s patients.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Prepares and submits insurance claims and/or patient statements, as assigned, in a prompt and accurate manner, consistent with terms specified in the insurance contract(s) and/or the sliding fee discount program.
  • Collaborates with relevant clinical staff to resolve any missing and/or incorrect claim data.
  • Responds to patient invoice and statement inquiries in a timely manner; evaluates patient’s financial status and sets up payment plans, if applicable.
  • Maintains current knowledge of and adherence to applicable Federal, State, & Local medical billing laws and regulations, third-party payor reimbursement guidelines, and billing software.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by your supervisor and/or the Chief Financial Officer.

Education, Skills, and Specifications


  • Requires at least one (1) year of Medical Billing experience or related work experience.
  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent OR a combination of education and related work experience.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
  • Knowledgeable in Federal, State, and Local billing laws & regulations; knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding, diagnosis coding, and medical terminology; works well under rigorous deadlines; teamwork oriented; excellent interpersonal and human relations skills and aptitude for communicating across the organization with employees, department managers and directors; demonstrates good organizational and time management skills; detail oriented and thorough; experience with Microsoft Office applications; demonstrates mature judgment and tact; requires adherence to strict confidentiality.
  • Special Requirements: Must have a reliable automobile for use on the job (mileage to be reimbursed), Valid California Driver’s License, and state required insurance coverage.
  • Must be submit to and successfully pass a criminal background check clearance and drug test as a pre-condition of employment.
  • Must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster.
