Job Summary:
Under direct supervision, responsible for providing technical skills in organizing and performing various medical laboratory procedures and clinical laboratory techniques. Perform clinical molecular assays for the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory using state-of-the-art molecular biology methods to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This position requires advanced, technical skills to organize and perform various clinical laboratory tests and procedures.
Work Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Job Duties:
- Performs routine laboratory procedures recognizing deviation from expected results.
- Analyzes and corrects problems with the assistance of more senior personnel.
- Perform standardized molecular assay procedures using methods such as PCR, Quantitative Real-time PCR, capillary electrophoresis & fragment analysis, Sanger sequencing. Analyze test data and evaluate test results.
- Perform Molecular-Microbiology assays (STD, COVID19, Respiratory and GI Panels).
- Perform sample processing, extract DNA, TNA, and RNA from different sample sources.
- Perform quality control procedures and interpret QC results and documents QC data. Write corrective action reports for failed tests and generates the appropriate reports for review with the assistance of senior personnel.
- Perform regular and periodic maintenance on laboratory instruments, troubleshoot instrument errors, perform inventory of all reagents and consumables.
- Participate in writing and editing procedure manuals and assists in preparing the laboratory for inspections by various regulatory/accrediting agencies.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed.
- Secures media and supplies for clinical testing or research studies and manages supply requests.
- Assists in the review and revision of laboratory policies and procedures and in the preparation for laboratory inspections by various regulatory/accrediting agencies.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science required.
Experience:
None.
Preferred:
Experience with PCR, quantitative real-time PCR, DNA and RNA isolation preferred.
Previous experience as a medical technologist in a CLIA/CAP regulated laboratory preferred.
Additional Licenses and Certifications:
Certification as a Molecular Biologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist or equivalent or eligibility to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire date is required.
