Agency Information: Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) is licensed by the State of Kansas to provide care and treatment for adults diagnosed with psychiatric disorders regardless of ability to pay. OSH serves individuals from 36 counties in Kansas in collaboration with 12 Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs). The centers refer individuals for admission to the hospital through a collaborative screening process. There are currently two hospitals on the Osawatomie campus in Miami county: Osawatomie State Hospital and Adair Acute Care.

Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary: This is technical work of a paraprofessional nature providing active care of Residents in a facility for individuals who were civilly committed to the Sexual Predator Treatment Program. MiCo House Mental Health Aids will provide security and supervision of residents’ daily activities. MHA’s observe and report unusual or significant activity or behaviors and provide transportation out into the community for various activities.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Interaction with Residents:
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for MiCo House Residents.
- Interact frequently with Residents in a therapeutic manor, which encourages them to follow program guidelines and advancement through the required step levels.
- Model appropriate behavior with Residents and staff.
- Provide clear and direct feedback to Residents regarding issues, as allowed by policy, and directing them to appropriate treatment team members for consultation, as necessary.
- Enforce Program rules in a fair and consistent manner.
- Assist residents by assisting them in meeting their Treatment Plan and Step System goals.
- Transport Residents on and off grounds to appointments, as required.
Safety and Security Functions:
- Provide direct observation of Residents by utilizing on premises security systems. Also conduct visual and phone checks when needed.
- Mental Health Aides will be responsible for controlling contraband on premises by conducting random room searches, person searches and vehicle searches.
- Directly observe Residents while opening mail.
- Assist in the prevention of elopements by continuously monitoring Residents whereabouts.
- Maintain order and discipline at MiCo House, leading by example.
- Monitor Residents during visits according to Reintegration Facility Policy.
- Conduct Surveillance on Residents, both covert and otherwise.
Documentation and Treatment Team Functions:
- Document observations and significant Resident activities and behaviors in the daily shift report and Resident Computer log.
- Complete all required written reports in accordance with policies and in a timely manner.
- Attend and actively participate in monthly employee staff meetings.
- Provide feedback to Assistant Director and the Director regarding Resident behavior.
- Participate in natural work teams by applying knowledge of the job to identify and define questions or areas needing improvement and present alternate ideas.
- Perform all additional job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor to accomplish the mission and goals of the Reintegration Facility.
