JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE OF JOB: School Mental Health Counselor

QUALIFICATIONS:

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

OBJECTIVE OF JOB: To meet the social, emotional, and academic needs of all students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Perform individual and group counseling services with students, along with crisis intervention, to support personal, academic, social and/or emotional issues related to educational and social progress.

· Use planned and purposeful interventions to improve students’ skills and meet individual student needs.

· Conducts assessments/screenings related to student behavioral, social-emotional and other needs that adversely affect their educational performance.

· Communicate with parents in order to increase their understanding of a parent’s constructive participation in resolving their child’s problems and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources that are available.

· Collaborate/communicate with parents, students, staff and outside service providers in networking for positive student change.

· Supervise the referral of students to, and serve as a liaison with, staff, outside service providers and stakeholders to facilitate the continuity of care.

· Work to identify and develop special abilities of individual students.

· Collaborate with team members (MLSS, SAT, 504, etc) to provide support, develop and implement support plans and monitor progress to address individual student needs.

· Education and training for school staff and parents/guardians

· Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/administration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.

The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with BOE policy.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $43,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year

• Truth Or Consequences, NM 87901: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

License/Certification:

• School Counseling Certification (Preferred)
