-Middle School Girls Basketball Assistant Coach*

*
*Accountable to the K-12 Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director, the Middle School Girls Basketball Assistant Coach supports the combination of academic and athletic success for each student-athlete. The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the overarching strategies outlined by the head coach while instructing student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. Additionally, the Assistant Coach will support student-athletes in developing self-discipline, self-confidence, values, pride of accomplishment, teamwork, and social skills.

*Supervises:* This is a non-supervisory role.*

*Compensation: This is a seasonal, part-time, stipend-paid position. Stipend is dependent upon experience and qualifications. The school participates in the Colorado Public Schools Retirement System PERA.

*Essential Functions:
**
** Attend all Athletic Director meetings and league meetings (when needed).*
** Increase the number of participants through effective recruiting of currently enrolled students.*
** Develop life skills in student athletes.*
** Assist in creating practice plans specifically designed for incremental skill development.*
** Monitor academic progress and student eligibility.*
** Support student-teacher relationships and provide academic support opportunities for student-athletes.*
** Teach and encourage sportsmanship and integrity.*
** Maintain professional behavior during practices and games.*
** Conduct effective practices to develop strength, endurance, and athletic skills.*
** Conduct activities to build individual participants into a cohesive team.*
** Provide appropriate, systematic feedback to all student-athletes.*
** Build and improve relationships among peer coaches and teachers.*
** Build and improve relationships with other sports teams in the school district at the same or different levels.*
** Attend and participate in ongoing professional development as a coach to improve overall student/athlete skill.*
** Assist the head coach with acquisition, distribution, maintenance and repair of all equipment and uniforms.*
** Assist the head coach with raising and/or acquiring the necessary funds for program success.*
** Demonstrate appropriate concern for visiting teams and officials.*
** Skillfully use First Aid and CPR training to prevent, minimize and treat predictable injuries.*

*General Qualifications and Requirements:

• Knowledge in sport-specific coaching and training techniques.

** Prior experience coaching in basketball preferred.*
** Ability to work as an integral part of the coaching staff.*
** Commitment to mission and vision of the school.*
** Effective oral communication.*
** Professional attitude, appearance, and demeanor.*
** Ability to remain calm and de-escalate tense situations.*
** Flexibility and creativity.*
** Growth-oriented approach; always looking for ways to improve professionally.*
