Full-Time In-Person Position with Benefits (40 hours a week)

LEAP’s middle school programs aim to create a safe, welcoming space afterschool for middle school students to participate in offerings that are fun, engaging, project-based and have an academic and creative focus. The programming seeks to enhance students’ academic, social-emotional, and career readiness skills.

Expanding Horizons (EH) is a federally funded 21st Century Community Learning Center offering after-school and summer programs to students in grades 6 - 8. EH is housed at the Collins Middle School in Salem and is operated in partnership with Salem Public Schools. The program supports youth from diverse populations and backgrounds, and primarily serves students referred by City Connects counselors. The EH Site Coordinator oversees day-to-day program operations, supervises staff, communicates with students and families, and works closely with other LEAP staff and district staff on the program design and offerings.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Supervising group leaders, behavior specialists, PBL and enrichment instructors (some school teachers and some community partners) and a United Way AmeriCorps member
  • Hiring and organizing training (as needed) for program staff
  • Attending professional development opportunities from DESE and other organizations, as schedule allows
  • Providing curriculum oversight and planning in collaboration with LEAP's Director of MS School Programs and MS Manager with input from district staff.
  • Planning and running staff meetings
  • Managing logistics for snacks and transportation and use of school facilities
  • Collection of data including attendance and DESE SAYO assessments
  • Updating and managing transportation lists with transportation department
  • Working with the Middle School Manager to assure we are working within budget and to purchase program supplies
  • In collaboration with the Director of Middle School Programs and MS Manager, planning for summer programs and new school year programs
  • Working with the Middle School Manager on various event planning and parent engagement initiatives
  • Other duties as requested by the Middle School Manager

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree (in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Sociology, or other related fields)
  • Teaching or counseling experience required, preferably with students ages 11 - 14
  • Some prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity, developing an equity-lens, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Must be extremely organized and detail-oriented

ADDITIONAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Experience or demonstrated interest in working with underserved youth and commitment to developing skills to best support this demographic group and demonstrated understanding of the unique barriers faced by this group
  • Must hold the belief that all youth have the ability to enroll and graduate with a post-secondary degree or credential, if they choose to do so
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish is very helpful but not required
  • Familiarity and experience with project-based learning a major plus
  • A creative thinker, a problem-solver and someone who takes initiative
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Google platforms and MS Office- particularly MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and/or a current driver’s license for days when travel is required

Compensation for this position ranges from $22.00/hour to $25.00/hour depending on experience and education.

Benefits: As a full-time employee working 40 hours a week, you will qualify for the following:

  • Accrued hours up to 3 weeks of vacation to start (increases based on tenure)
  • Accrued hours up to an additional 19 days in sick and personal time (including optional holidays)
