We believe in a holistic approach to Montessori education, combining academics, practical life, sensorial exercises and mixed age groups, allowing each child to express their unique gifts, interests and abilities. Petoskey Montessori Children's House serves children as young as 2 months old in our Infant/Nido Community to our elementary school 5th graders and all ages in between.

The School Director will be an experienced leader who can provide management oversight for daily school operations. The School Director works closely with the Director of Operations in delivering high quality educational programs that are consistent with the policies and procedures of Petoskey Montessori Children’s House and is a relationship builder who can continue to strengthen the school’s connection and engagement within the community.

The Essentials:

  • Hire, support, develop, and manage teaching staff to ensure that a quality Montessori program is implemented and that the school is operated within the policies and procedures of the school, as well as according to the state of Michigan-Department of Human Services licensing rules for child care.
  • Ensure that classroom teachers provide instruction and activities that are consistent with the Montessori curriculum set forth in the school's curriculum and the state of Michigan guidelines for school and child care operations.
  • Coordinate and implement tours, parent education nights, individual new family interviews, and other school events and activities.
  • Develop a strategic plan for the school in partnership with the Director of Operations and the Board of Trustees
  • Attend all staff meetings, in-service trainings, and other events, workshops, and seminars as requested by the Director of Operations.
  • Create a strong culture that embodies the mission of our organization
  • Build a strong community among staff, parents, and children

Education, Licensure & Certification:

  • Must hold or be able to obtain (before hire) Michigan Childcare Program Director status
  • Must meet any and all State-required qualifications including successfully clearing a criminal background check without exemption.
  • Must have valid drivers license
  • Early childhood education leadership experience in a preschool, charter school, head start, or private school setting.
  • A four-year college degree or higher in a child-related field (elementary education, child guidance/counseling, child psychology, family studies, social work).
  • Montessori credential issued by the Association Montessori International (AMI), American Montessori Society (AMS), or any other Montessori teacher training institution recognized by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) that meets or exceeds 270 hours of academic training.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with a focus on results
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • An aptitude for creating a warm and benevolent team culture
  • Strong leadership and the ability to make the tough decisions with limited information
  • Dedicated to the practice of Montessori educational philosophy; understanding of, and willingness to passionately promote the Petoskey Montessori Children’s House mission

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $50,000.00 per year
