Seeking an outgoing and talented English and ESL Tutor for PreK-12 and adult students in Alameda County and Contra Costa County. Successful candidates are enthusiastic, energetic, and open-minded with a passion for lifelong learning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in emergent literacy, academic English, and ESL for children to adults (ages 4 and up)
- Tutor students online as needed
- Travel to students, tutoring at their homes and other locations throughout the East Bay, in accordance with health and safety requirements
- Punctually and reliably attend scheduled appointments
- Assist students in mastering individualized, measurable goals in the following areas:
- Listening, speaking, reading, writing, and emergent literacy
- American English phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics
- Common Core State Standards for K-12 English Language Arts
- Executive functioning and self-advocacy
- Communication in school, work, social life, and daily life
- Tutor in ELA applied to multiple subjects, such as informational text in science and social studies
- Provide executive function coaching in self-regulation, organization, task initiation and completion, time-management, etc.
- Create structured learning opportunities during tutoring sessions, involving students in creating and monitoring their schedules and agendas
- Organize the tutoring environment to promote productive learning
- Help students complete and turn in ELA schoolwork and homework by due dates
- Provide behavior management based on principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA), including but not limited to positive reinforcement based on student preferences and choices
- Dynamically implement child-centered, student-centered, naturalistic, incidental, and play-based teaching and learning opportunities in emergent curriculum during tutoring sessions
- Demonstrate a fun and dynamic tutoring style with high energy, creativity, spontaneity, and adaptability to diverse student needs
- Demonstrate a kind, caring, compassionate, and patient tutoring style for learners of all skill levels
- Address IEP goals where applicable during tutoring sessions
- Supervise children on their breaks during tutoring sessions, where applicable
- Monitor student performance and facilitate progress from baseline to mastery, generalization, and maintenance of skills
- Record accurate, objective data on student performance in real time during tutoring sessions
- Communicate tutoring summaries and student progress with children’s parents/guardians and teachers where applicable during tutoring sessions
- Interact and communicate with all students, families, staff, and community partners in a friendly, professional, positive, and clear manner
- Maintain confidentiality of students and their records, performance and progress
- Actively participate in training and apply training content to job performance
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Possess reliable transportation to meet students at their homes in Alameda County and Contra Costa County
Availability:
- Reliable availability at least 4 days/wk Mon-Sat
- Reliable availability at least 2 days/wk Mon-Fri from 3:00 PM-7:30 PM
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree (or current major in) English, Linguistics, TESOL, Speech and Language Pathology, Education, or a related field
- Academic transcripts in good standing with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA for your most recent transcript
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year experience teaching or tutoring English or ESL
- Minimum 1 year experience teaching or tutoring elementary school aged children (although we serve ages 4 to adulthood, most of our students are in elementary school grades)
- Minimum 1 year experience implementing emergent curriculum or naturalistic and incidental learning (or demonstrate willingness to implement them)
- Minimum 1 year experience teaching or tutoring culturally, linguistically, and developmentally diverse learners
- Minimum 1 year experience teaching or tutoring students with disabilities, such as autism, ADHD, or speech and language delays
- Minimum 1 year experience with behavior management and tutoring or coaching executive functioning skills
Skills:
- Fluency and command of American English phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics
- Enthusiastic and passionate about inspiring students to achieve their full potential in school, at work, and in life
- Fun and dynamic tutoring style with high energy, creativity, spontaneity, and adaptability to diverse student needs

Other Requirements:
- Pass a DOJ and FBI background check
- Provide proof of your full COVID-19 vaccination or exemption for medical reasons or sincerely held religious belief
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- TESOL certificate or degree
- Familiarity with Common Core State Standards for ELA
