GENERAL PURPOSE

Serves as clinical resource to assigned business units. Provides direct support and direction to region Clinical Practice Specialists to ensure identification of clinical needs and opportunities. As part of the core Clinical Services department, provides knowledge and expertise in developing evidence -based standards of care and staff skill competencies. Responsible for execution of quality of care through appropriate clinical programs, establishing clinical protocols, guidelines and structure for delivery of clinical care. Designs and implements mechanisms to measure effectiveness of clinical service delivery.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Coordinates via collaboration with Clinical Practice Specialists to ensure optimal delivery of clinical education activities such as: Clinical education seminars, in-services and training modules, whether in-person or via electronic media support such as SKYPE or conference calls. Together with Clinical Practice Specialists, provides field consultation for clinical reasoning and problem solving (via site visits, phone, email and webinars); aids in development of clinical leadership by providing orientation, training and support to enhance skills; provides support to CPSs for assigned components of DOR Orientation. In conjunction with RVP, identifies clinical enhancement opportunities based on quality care, programming needs and customer collaboration. This focus is then coordinated for execution throughout the area. With RVP, ensures AVP and CPS accountability for execution of the plans and delivery to committed results. Works with respective RVP to validate agreed upon results.
  • Oversees and supports development of a clinical strategic plan for each area by working with all levels of operational leadership and clinical services. The CD will drive the assessment of clinical functions and performance related to clinical programming and quality care and develops action steps for clinical enhancements through hands-on service delivery, interactive training or targeted observation; promotes active participation by AVP and CPS in identification and implementation of action plans in underperforming components of clinical practice; holds each accountable to monitor impact of plans to ensure desired results are realized. Includes review of open positions with AVP/CPS teams to ensure open positions are based on measurable patient care needs.
  • The Clinical Director is expected to monitor key region performance metrics including necessary analysis of trends and opportunities and make reports and recommendations to the RVP for action steps regarding the opportunities as well as any quality issues and clinical program needs.
  • Actively participates as part of core Clinical Services Department for identification of clinical service delivery trends, outcomes trends and other value based-measures to monitor quality and opportunities. Assists to set strategic direction and objectives and communicates to AVPs and CPSs to ensure forward movement and monitors progress against those goals.
  • Actively participates as part of core Clinical Services Department team to develop strategic direction and specific strategies to expand application of evidence-based assessment and intervention tests and measures to advance clinical practice quality and consistency across the organization
  • Assists other Clinical Services Department team members in development of clinical program training and support materials for training and execution of existing and new programs. Responsible for supporting implementation of clinical programs, clinical protocols, standards of practice and care delivery systems
  • Partners with Quality and Compliance Department to assist with denial prevention and with the appeal management process; Through Clinical Practice Specialists, monitors any and all external review activity including and necessary corrective action plans including conducting assigned reviews of documentation, documentation outliers, and validation reviews for both short- and long-term patients
  • Monitors quality review activities to assure appropriate clinical delivery of services, and standards of practice requirements are met. Ensure Clinical Practice Specialists are equipped to serve as primary clinical resources for all clinical and specialty programs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate from an accredited program for Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech-Language Pathology
  • Must hold current license in at least one state of practice
  • Minimum five (5) years multi-site experience in a leadership role
  • Must meet Clinical Competency requirements upon hire and as needed
  • Ability to travel with overnight stays
  • Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn company systems
  • Good communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time without compromising deadlines
  • Must have experience/expertise in National level presentations, publications, workshops and participation in clinical research
  • Must possess thorough knowledge/experience in regulatory requirements, strategic planning, data analysis and clinical program development and implementation
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality regarding patient, employee and company proprietary information
  • Must have the ability to relate professionally and positively and work cooperatively with patients, families, and other employees at all levels

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

Mobility, reaching, bending, lifting (minimum of 10 pounds), fine hand coordination, ability to read and write, the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions, ability to travel, and ability to remain calm under pressure
