Network Analyst
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Primarily supports the activities of the campus Network Control Center; establishes processes and procedures and creates related documentation. Plans, designs, and installs Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), and Voice Over IP (VOIP) networks. Serves as the system administrator for edge switches, routers, Network Access Control (NAC), wireless access points, Campus VOIP systems, and monitors network performance and prepares reports troubleshoots network performance as needed. Responds to helpdesk tickets related to enabling/disabling switch ports and troubleshoots general network wired/wireless problems. Administrates and monitors network notification tools (SolarWinds, Nagios, etc.). Manages IP Address Management (IPAM), including maintaining an inventory of network assets, up-to-date cut sheets, and stays current with network and data communication technology and trends. Maintains expertise in network architecture, including industry trends, strategies, and products, to ensure that assets are effectively and efficiently utilized.
Serves as Firewall Administrator, monitors and reviews logs files for the campus. Upgrades all network devices, including routers, firewalls, switches, etc. Assists in protecting the network from all unauthorized access and/or tampering by utilizing network monitoring and analysis/configuration tools. Troubleshoots complex networking/application performance problems promptly and documents problem resolutions for future reference.
Evaluates alternatives, recommends products, develops justifications, and participates in the procurement process. Identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business needs and capabilities. Participates in Chancellor’s Office system-wide initiatives on security, switching, routing, and wireless devices to develop best practice guidelines and implementation strategies for those devices. Manages excellent customer relationships by addressing operational issues proactively and by meeting customers periodically.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Required Experience:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, industrial technology, or telecommunications and a minimum of 2 years of experience in enterprise network design, troubleshooting, installation, and support. May substitute an associate’s degree in computer science, engineering, industrial technology, or telecommunications and a minimum of 4 years of experience in enterprise network design, troubleshooting, installation, and support OR an equivalent combination of education training, certifications and/or experience that fulfills the requirements of the position may be considered.
Working knowledge of LAN, WAN, Fast Ethernet, Routers, Switches, Switching, Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN), Simple Network Message Protocol (SNMP), Virtual Private Networks (VPN), and Wireless Networking. Ability to interpret, analyze, shape network traffic, and quickly diagnose problems in a complex data communications environment. Ability to apply security best practices to all aspects of the job. Possess deep technical expertise in both wired and wireless networking disciplines; specifically IP routing, LAN, WAN, and 802.11x. Ability to think strategically, perform decisive troubleshooting, and has a working knowledge of switches and wireless network technologies.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with customers, co-workers, consultants, technicians, and vendors, communicating both orally and in writing. Must be able to gather data, exercise good judgment, formulate alternatives and be decisive when required. Must have a growing vision of the role of information technology in higher education with an emphasis on developing a network infrastructure to effectively support the educational endeavor. Strong project management skills, interpersonal skills, and communication skills are required.
Requires prolonged sitting, ability to access and work in building crawlspaces, and able to lift 40 pounds. May be required to work some evenings, early mornings, or weekends in response to projects or maintenance
Preferred Experience:
Experience with WAN and LAN security, including access control lists, router firewalls, network security. etc. Knowledge of VOIP Call Managers and Voicemail (VM) servers. Experience with packet-capture software. Experience with Unix operating systems (OS). CCNA, CWNA, Network+ or any other related certifications.

Hiring Range: $5,834 - $6,667 per month
