Job Summary:
The Network Designer II is responsible for completion and quality control of both coax and fiber optical related design work. This responsibility includes completion of the planning, design, estimating and associated documentation of these designs. The Network Designer II is also responsible for monitoring and managing customer projects and requests to ensure all needs are met and expected due dates are achieved. The position is responsible for maintaining and providing various reporting related to projects as requested by management.
The Network Designer reports directly to the Supervisor of Network Design
There are no direct reports to the Network Designer II position
Essential Job Functions:
The Network Designer II is accountable for:
- Producing fiber optical and coaxial designs using existing design tools and platforms;
- Planning and coordinating design work with customers’ so as to meet agreed upon expectations and deliverables;
- Field verification work as required by the project or task;
- Creating and maintain fiber optic splice sheets for construction projects;
- Maintaining the accuracy of the design database and records used in the department;
- Quality Control for accuracy of the design and design databases created by Network Design I
- Evaluating fiber capacity and availability during pre-design meetings and requests;
- Generate designs for field review and to assist in permit application processes;
- Ensuring all facets of projects are completed, compiled and released within prescribed time frames;
- Assisting in the pre-design decisions and design processes for projects and expansion areas;
- Coordinate schedules with outside Engineering firms to provide for timely project completions;
- Coordinating project releases with Technical Operations;
- Providing project support to both office and field crews after release of a project;
- Supplying all necessary reports on a timely basis, or as requested;
- Insure the security of proprietary company information such as network maps and documentation at all times;
- Providing continued development of new ideas and approaches that allow for better use of resources within the department;
- Supporting and working closely with other team members utilizing personal skills, traits and achievements thereby providing the company and its customers with the best possible product and reliability;
- Providing and displaying a positive outlook and a willingness to assist others, along with possessing and displaying a high level of cooperation and teamwork;
- Adhering to Company policies and procedures including EEO guidelines and safety at all times;
- Performing any other departmental duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related degree – strongly preferred
- Two to five years design software and drafting knowledge and experience - required
- Previous experience using Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel - required
- Working knowledge of AutoDesk AutoCAD, CADSTAR or Bentley design software – required
- Previous communication network design experience - preferred
- Strong working knowledge of engineering practices related to network design of coax, fiber and network powering - required.
