A renowned New York City health system is seeking a new Surgical Services Nurse Educator! The local community has been served by this Health System for more than 150 years, giving it a strong foundation.

This 450-bed medical center has received the American Heart Association's Gold Plus Stroke Award for several years running and is a Level I Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center. The Surgical Services Nurse Educator will join a great group of health care leaders, providers, and professionals who genuinely care about the work they perform. Reporting to the Director of Nursing Education and Professional Development, the Surgical Services Nurse Educator will help new hires learn and acclimate to work in the Perioperative Service Line. The Surgical Services Nurse Educator will teach Periop 101 to onboard new hires but also help current staff keep up with their skills and professional development. This role is pivotal to improving the quality of care provided within the Perioperative Service Line.

Surgical Services Nurse Educator responsibilities include:

• Planning and organizing orientation for new hires in collaboration with unit managers and the education team.
• Aids in assigning unit preceptors by the educational personnel.
• Helping out during the hiring process for new workers.
• Completes new hire probationary performance reviews and takes part in annual reviews with unit managers.
• Coordinates staff development and programs for continuing education and training within the department.
• Helps Professional Development Manager coordinate programs with nearby colleges and institutions.
• Up to 20% of work time is spent providing patient care in the area of clinical expertise in order to demonstrate clinical competence and be able to impart knowledge to others.
• Actively supports the management team in ensuring that the workforce complies with legal standards.
