What you’ll do:

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily clinical care and efficient flow of patients through the endoscopy experience at the center. The manager is the clinical representative on the Operations, CQI, Infection Control, Risk Management and Safety Committees. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily schedule and proper staffing of clinical employees (registered nurses, endoscopy technicians, reprocessing technicians, medical assistants), will assist management in their recruitment, hiring and evaluation; and ensure their compliance with clinical policies and procedures, competencies and up-to-date training as needed.

What you will be working on:

Clinical Role

  • Functions as a patient care Nursing Manager, taking on the role of admitting nurse, procedural nurse or recovery room nurse as needed. Maintains nursing skills and awareness of day-to-day clinical requirements by working in direct patient care side by side with doctors and nurses.
  • Monitors the daily flow of patients and makes recommendations for efficiency or customer service.
  • Acts as the on-site expert in clinical skills and performs individualized and group teaching as needed to enhance the learning of new or improved skills.
  • Serves as the nursing team leader during emergency situations. Maintains ACLS certification and leads team through any cardiac or respiratory emergency. When required, initiates a “911” call, and gives information according to policy.
  • Ensures the completion of competency training and assessment for all clinical staff during the orientation period (to be done within 30 days of starting) and annually, communicating to them about their strengths and areas that need improvement.
  • Plans in-services and trainings for the clinical staff that expand their knowledge of nursing, GI procedures, scope reprocessing and the equipment used during these procedures.
  • Determines and schedules clinical staff, including nurses, endoscopy technicians, and medical assistants, to appropriately support the flow of patients through the clinical area. Keeping in mind patient care needs and budgetary constraints, discusses changes in staffing with the Director of Operations and Administrator.
  • Conducts chart reviews to check for completeness and accuracy, and enforces the need for consistency in documentation. Reviews chart and audits worksheets completed by the nursing staff, making suggestions, and adding addendums to the records as needed.
  • Serves as the center’s on-site Infection Control Nurse and works cooperatively with management to provide clinical input into the center’s quality improvement program.
  • Participates as the clinical team member of the Operations, CQI, Infection Control, Risk Management, and Safety Committees and other committees and task forces as required. Assigns staff as needed to committees. Assists in preparing agendas and reports for these committees.

Supervision of Staff

  • Ensures center efficiency by scheduling and monitoring staffing and patient load on a daily basis.
  • Working with management, conducts and documents disciplinary actions, as necessary.
  • Working with management, conducts clinical employee evaluations annually or as needed, and provides input as needed for all center staff.
  • Monitors and approves timesheets and scheduling systems for all clinical staff and submits accurate time summary to the Director of Operations for biweekly payroll by predetermined due date/time. Ensures that policies are adhered to concerning the accrual and usage of PTO (Paid Time Off).
  • Ensures that all Policies and Procedures are explained to the clinical staff and followed by them.
  • Working with the Director of Operations, conducts regular staff meetings and maintains meeting minutes.

Fiscal Responsibility

  • Promotes cost containment and efficient use of center resources.
  • Working with the Materials Manager, coordinates purchasing of clinical equipment and supplies to provide optimum patient care within budget allowances.
  • Analyzes work area and makes recommendations for potential cost-effective improvements.
  • Staffs the center as efficiently as possible when there are known down-times (vacations, etc.)

Miscellaneous Duties

  • Working with management, monitors the environment of care, including temperature, cleanliness, sterility, operational ability, ventilation, lighting, etc.
  • Working with management, completes reports on all emergency drills.
  • Attends meetings of the Board of Managers as needed and presents clinical items to the Board of Managers upon request.
  • When necessary, opens the center in the morning, including deactivating the alarm, and closes the center at the end of the day, securing all areas prior to setting the alarm.
  • Performs additional duties as directed by the Director of Operations, Director of Quality and Compliance, Administrator, or Medical Directors.

What you’ll know:

  • A successful applicant must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in nursing management preferred, preferably in an Ambulatory Surgical Center.
  • Recent direct patient care experience, within the scope of the New York State Nurse Practice Act and approved center policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • BS or equivalent college degree, current state RN license and ACLS certified.
  • Obtain SGNA certification.

The Endoscopy Center of New York carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the position is $115,0000 annually and the maximum salary for the position is $125,000 annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
