Position: Nurse Practitioner

Position Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse that helps with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments, and consultations. Generally, the nurse practitioner performs the important task of educating patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and interpret patients’ histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnosis.
  • Maintain complete and detailed records of patients’ health care plans and prognoses.
  • Provide documentation within 24 hours of patient visit or per visit.
  • Recommend diagnostic or therapeutic interventions with attention to safety, cost, invasiveness, simplicity, acceptability, adherence, and efficacy.
  • Order, perform, or interpret the results of diagnostic tests, such as complete blood counts (CBCs), electrocardiograms (EKGs), and radiographs (x-rays).
  • Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized.
  • Prescribe medication dosages, routes, and frequencies based on patient characteristics such as age and gender.
  • Perform routine or annual physical examinations.
  • Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
  • Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.
  • Schedule follow-up visits to monitor patients or evaluate health or illness care.
  • Mentor facility staff by education in a one on one setting.
  • Notify supervisor if any scheduling conflict arises or if the Practitioner will not be available for rounding in a reasonable amount of time to make alternate arrangements for patients.
  • Notify your supervisor if there are concerns in a facility that would affect patient outcomes.
  • Maintain communication with Physician regarding any patient needs and safety concerns.
  • Diagnose or treat acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections, or injuries.
  • Supervise or coordinate patient care or support staff activities.
  • Maintain a professional attitude with facility staff, nurses, and team members.
  • Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients’ individual circumstances.
  • Counsel patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as food supplements, over-the-counter (OTC) medications, or herbal remedies.
  • Provide patients with information needed to promote health, reduce risk factors, or prevent disease or disability.
  • Consult with or refer patients to appropriate specialists when conditions exceed the scope of practice or expertise.
  • Train patients, family members, or caregivers in techniques for managing disabilities or illnesses.

Other Functions:

  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, employees and outside contacts.
  • Maintain a professional attitude with facility staff, nurses, and team members.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor while representing Spectrum Healthcare Solutions.
  • Willingness to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily.
  • Receives very general guidance with respect to overall objectives; work is usually quite independent of others; operates within guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures and report all unsafe activities to supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise patient care personnel.

Qualifications / Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year exp in an acute care setting
  • Master’s Degree

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Read current literature, talk with colleagues, or participate in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in nursing.
  • Maintain current knowledge of state legal regulations for nurse practitioner practice including reimbursement of services.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory processes and payer systems such as Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and private sources.
  • Proven ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Proven ability to select use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.
  • Proven ability to efficiently multi-task.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate verbally or in writing effectively with people at any level.
  • Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Managing one's own time and the time of others.
  • Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Give full attention to what other people are saying, take time to understand the points being made, ask questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

  • Ability to push, pull, bend, lift, and reach.
  • Requires repeating the same physical activities or mental activities over and over.
  • Requires walking and running.
  • Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Requires standing

  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
  • Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people.

  • Requires dealing with unpleasant, angry, or discourteous people.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $110,000.00 per year
