POSITION SUMMARY
Ox-Bow School of Art is an 113-year old art school and artists’ residency. The primary role of the After Hours & Community Care Assistant is to respond to urgent, time sensitive, and emergency needs of the campus body during evening hours, when the administrative office is closed. The core purpose of this position is to provide campus with an after hours point person who can answer routine questions about campus life, as well as assist with basic first aid, CPR, and emergency situations as necessary. The
Assistant will also plan and arrange community wellness events and resources for the ever-changing on-site community. The Assistant will be an ambassador for a healthy on-campus culture, both in a holistic sense and in support of best practices regarding COVID-19 mitigation. They will also provide administrative and event-based support during evening hours.
This position requires working 5PM to 1AM as well as being available (on-call) via walkie talkie from 1AM to 7 AM. This position will run from mid-April through late-August. This is a residential position during the scheduled working season, and room and board as well as a studio space on campus are provided. Regular shift hours are paid hourly; and, if any incident occurring during the on-call hours requires attention, paid at time and ½ for hours worked over 40 hours per week. Scheduled working hours are subject to change and are determined by the Campus Director.
This position is a 1-year contract with the option for annual renewal up to 3-years pending satisfactory performance review.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Keep walkie-talkies charged, on and within earshot during work and on-call hours
● Assist anyone who needs first aid attention
● Seek help from other staff members or emergency professionals when needed, including but not limited to the Campus Director, Campus Manager and Wellness Counselors
● In an emergency, call 911 and begin CPR if needed
● Assist any participant in need of emotional or mental first aid
● Be a calming, open ear for on-campus participants
● Be a positive, supportive, visible presence on campus during evening events
● Implement emergency protocols when necessary
● Write up reports on all incidents or emergencies
● Stock and maintain first aid kits and stations
● Support participant check-in processes during evening hours as assigned
● Support faculty and visiting artist lectures during evening hours as assigned
● Attend weekly check-ins with the Campus Director
● Under the guidance of the Campus Director, plan and implement campus wellness events and resources
● Other project- and event-based support as determined by the Campus Director; including but not limited to office, housekeeping, maintenance, and hospitality support
EDUCATION/JOB EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
● Trained in basic first aid and CPR (Ox-Bow will assist in providing this training); previous CPR certification a plus
● Trained in emotional first aid (Ox-Bow will assist in getting this training)
● Know and communicate Ox-Bow’s mission and emergency & COVID mitigation protocols
● Know and communicate campus rules and regulations
● Be familiar with the grounds and facilities
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
● Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
● Must have excellent people and communication skills
● Ability to work well and remain calm under pressure
● Must be a team player and able to work independently
● Must be innovative, resourceful, patient, and possess a strong sense of integrity and optimism
● A passion for the arts and familiarity with artist communities is preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
● Ability to traverse uneven terrain including stairs
● Ability to work indoors and outdoors in high heat and humidity
● Ability to work nights and weekends
