POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the general direction of the Engineering P&C Supervisor, this position encompasses electrical engineering duties under a variety of focus areas. including transmission and distribution protection analysis, substation planning, design, specifications, procurement, and commissioning.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand one-lines, three-lines, schematic diagrams, wiring and connection diagrams for area of Engineering focus.
  • Project management responsibilities, where applicable, including fiscal control, reporting and closing of projects.
  • Understand the use of technical test equipment and oversight of the associated data and results.
  • Interact with area field personnel, providing Engineering oversight and technical assistance as needed.
  • Understanding of applicable standards and regulations per specific focus area of Electrical Engineering.
  • Ability to develop solutions per system needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other Engineers and other departments.
  • Understanding basic electrical theory and the application to a Power Utility.

Focus Areas:

Protection and Control:

  • Engineering design and technical services for the specification, application and analysis of protective relaying, control, and automation systems.
  • Use relay protection principles and practices for the application of electro-mechanical, solid-state and microprocessor relays.
  • Routinely develop relaying setting files using vendor specific software packages for various types of microprocessor-based relays.
  • Compilation of electrical system data, statistical reports, and specific data requests, including protection and control testing and commissioning records.
  • Assists with communication equipment and controls systems including design, commissioning and trouble shooting.
  • Engineering analysis and application of Distribution short circuit protection.
  • Engineering analysis and application of Transmission protection and control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC PRC standards

REQUIRED OR PREFERRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Engineer I-BS degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology required. Related field experience in focus area will be considered.
  • Engineer II- BS degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology required. Five years of T&D Engineering required. Related field experience in focus area will be considered.
  • Engineer III- BS degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology required. Ten years of T&D Engineering required. Related field experience in focus area will be considered.
  • Experience with PC based software including excel spreadsheets, AutoCAD, CYME & CAPE preferred.
  • Position requires identity verification and seven-year criminal background check with update at least every seven years pursuant to NERC standards.
  • Maine driver’s license required.

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external parties; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Able to deal with ambiguity, among multiple projects and competing priorities

NOTES:

  • Position requires sitting, standing, driving, and walking on uneven terrain.
  • Routine work outside required.
  • Position requires concentration and strong organizational skills
  • Versant Power is a tobacco free and fragrance-free workplace.
  • Usual work hours are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Extra hours are required.
  • Other related duties as assigned, including designated duties associated with System Restoration.

RATE OF PAY:

Salary Level is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
