Position Summary

The Painter/Yard Helper Under general supervision, perform high-level quality work in painting and the yard area. May direct work of other employees and perform related tasks as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares and solvent cleans material for coating using a variety of hand and power tools.
• Tapes & masks areas required to be free of coatings.
• Operates, cleans, and maintains all painting equipment.
• Mixes paint & coatings in accordance with standard practices and paint product sheets.
• Applies a variety of coatings including Primers and Top Coats using Brushes, Rollers, and Airless Paint
• Equipment.
• Estimates time and materials required; keeps electronic and written records of painting procedures,
• material inventory, maintenance, and repairs.
• Maintains a clean, orderly and safe work area.
• Reads and understands blueprints, specifications, product sheets and safety data sheets.
• Operates a variety of powered lifting equipment including forklifts, telehandlers and indoor bridge cranes to
• move finished and unfinished materials.
• Prepares finished materials for shipping, including palletizing, banding, wrapping, and pre-staging.
• Directs placement of finished material onto semi-trailers from ground and/or trailer.
• Other duties as directed by Supervision.

• Operate and use required tools & equipment skillfully and safely.
• Read, write & understand English Language.
• Communicate clearly with supervisors, peers & subordinates.
• Perform basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers,
• decimals, and fractions.
• Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Punctuality and Reliability – This position requires early am start times.
• Ability to perform heavy physical labor requiring frequent lifting of up to 50#, and occasional lifting up to
• 75# unassisted.
• Ability to tolerate outdoor work in all weather conditions; long periods of standing/walking on uneven
• and/or irregular surfaces including concrete floors, gravel, asphalt, dirt, snow and ice. This position involves
• bending, stooping, standing, squatting, pushing, pulling, climbing, walking and requires full unrestricted use
• of both arms, both hands, both legs and both feet.
• Ability to safely operate tools & equipment (hand, power, & mobile)
• Ability to handle hazardous materials in a safe manner.
• Must be able to work in a “Team Environment” - willing to take instructions and advice from team members.

Schedule

American Steel Shop and Yard hours are 5:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday (50+ hours) Weekend work will be required as needed to fulfill contract and job obligations. Additional hours may occasionally be scheduled at the end of the workday for truck loading/off-loading.
