Overview

The YEP Enriches Art Instructor is a primary member of the YEP Enriches team. This team member leads the planning and instruction of visual arts and other arts based activities within YEP’s enrichment programming. The Art Instructor leads regular and recurring visual art classes across YEP’s enrichment programming sites in Central City and New Orleans East. During the school year, the Art Instructor facilitates general exploratory art activities for afterschool programming, as well as facilitates an ongoing “Art club” for youth with a deeper interest in visual arts. During the summer months, the Arts Instructor provides more general art instruction to youth engaged in YEP’s summer camp. In addition to managing classes of young people, the Art Instructor will also play a key role in managing the inventory and materials needed to implement successful art programming. The Art Instructor will work in close collaboration with the YEP Enriches Program Manager and Site Coordinators in order to provide art instruction that fits in and supports the annual schedule of structured activities for the YEP Enriches programming. The Art Instructor is a part–time, hourly role and reports directly to the YEP Enriches Program Manager.

Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Submit monthly supply list to direct supervisor
  • Document services provided to youth participants in YEP’s ETO database, as appropriate.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and one on one planning meetings with direct supervisor
  • Redirect youth behaviors that are inappropriate and consult with the supervisor regarding repetitive or escalating behaviors
  • Ensure YEP’s Youth Center remain in good working condition and supplies, materials and equipment are well maintained and properly stocked
  • Ensure that youth are safe and supervised at all times
  • Build a positive relationship with each youth in your care, and foster positive connections between participants
  • Model prosocial behaviors for youth
  • Work effectively with YEP staff, interns, and volunteers

Art Instruction

  • Deliver high quality Art programming to YEP Enriches participants
  • Successfully deliver structured art programming across YEP’s Uptown and New Orleans East sites
  • Regularly develop and submit lesson plans and art supply lists necessary for the successful implementation of art classes
  • Administer and collect creative arts surveys as well as document weekly program attendance, to be entered into YEP’s ETO database
  • Set up and break down for all art activities

Content Area Support

  • Work collaboratively to plan and implement YEP Enriches Art Programming
  • Assist with YEP Enriches events
  • Assist with offsite Enriches field trips and outings.
  • Work collaboratively with the YEP Enriches team to incorporate art instruction and education into YEP’s Afterschool and Summer Camp schedule
  • Work in conjunction with external art contractors and guests to support youth engagement in externally facilitated programming
  • Assist with administering any surveys and assessments relevant to the YEP Enriches programming that youth are participating in

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience providing art instruction to groups of young people within a structured programming environment
  • Experience managing inventory and logistics of structured arts activities and meaningful displays of youth art work
  • Knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology in order to accomplish key job responsibilities
  • Ability to regularly work late-afternoon/ evening hours and occasional weekends, 15-20 hours per week on average
  • Ability to work across multiple program locations

Salary and Compensation

This position is part-time with an hourly wage between $15 - $20 an hour, depending upon experience.
