Job Description

Summary: To assist individuals with daily ADL’s in a home-like environment, and give support to the individuals we serve. Assist the individuals in attaining and maintaining independent living. Support and promote the rights of the individual and function as a participant of the Village Day Program. This position is a Category I job. It involves tasks that expose you to blood, body fluids, or body tissues. All of the job related tasks may involve potential exposure to mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body tissues or fluids. Use of protective measures (Universal Precautions and Blood borne Pathogen Procedures) is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following including other duties as assigned:

  • Performs a variety of tasks that range from helping an individual to complete his/her individual goals, ADL, which include toileting, preparing materials, and supervising/facilitating activities inside and outside of the facility.
  • Changing bed linens, housekeeping, laundering, shopping…etc.
  • Personal Care: Assist with daily living skills hygiene, bathing and dressing
  • Assist in preparation of meals and assist in eating/feeding if needed
  • Ensure meds are passed with care
  • Prepare and implement scheduled activities on weekends and when the center is closed
  • Ensures that materials are put away after use with all their pieces put together in order to maintain the materials and keep them sanitary, in good working order and available to the individuals.
  • Ensure proper documentation on the goals and objectives, social development, vocational, physical health, and behaviors of the individual desired outcomes and if applicable their Behavior Management Plan noting progress/lack of progress in all areas.
  • Maintain an accurate and complete individual record, and prepare reports on individuals and activities, as required by law, Center policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Perform duties such as assisting in the hallways, fire drills, bus loading and unloading, toileting, food preparation, and on community outings.
  • Attend weekly, monthly training and in-services for continuous improvement of services to the individuals and their families as scheduled.
  • Assists in maintenance of the facility to promote an attractive and hygienic facility for the clients, including but not limited to: keeping bathrooms well-stocked and clean, kitchen clean, trashcans empty, bedrooms neat, tables and chairs wiped down and disinfected.
  • Ensures the safety of the individuals at all times.
  • Learn about each individual and their individual plans.
  • Ensure that accurate attendance is completed daily by the appropriate assigned person.
  • Effectively intervenes in crises/emergency situation as it pertains to an individual’s behavior or in the event of a fire or other disaster.
  • Reports abuse, neglect and exploitation within one hour following established procedures. The health, safety and welfare of our individuals is of the utmost importance and concern.
  • Fills out all incident reports immediately and accurately and files them with the Manager.
  • Complete and maintain all required steps to drive company vehicles for the purpose of all transportation needs such as outings and etc.
  • Check for communication to/from family members daily regarding the individuals and responds appropriately to any and all concerns as well as informs the management of any concerns as well.
  • Confer with management, other Life Skills Instructors, and administrators in order to resolve individual’s behavioral and medical problems.
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Share vision and core values as outlined by The Village.
  • Ability to use good body mechanics in controlling erratic behavior and participating in physical activities with the individual as part of their program.
  • CNA experience preferred.
  • 1+ years’ experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Use of any assistive technology devices and adaptive aides used for the individual’s needs preferred.

Use of safety equipment for lifting and transitioning preferred

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $13.00 per hour
