Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Security Shift Lead is responsible for supporting Shift Supervisors by supporting and leading the daily activities of a team of security officers which provides safety and physical security of hospital patrons and facility assets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Coordinates day-to-day activities of shift staff. Provides training, plans, assigns and directs work as directed by site leadership. Responsibilities include recognizing, coaching, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Assists in providing effective supervision of security officers and other assigned personnel on an assigned shift.
  • Maintains thorough assigned supervision through direct observation and by continuous awareness of activities within the facility. Responds appropriately to any incidents and or service needs and escalates issues to Shift Supervisors as needed.
  • Assists with new teammate training by conducting training as necessary, positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed. Provides feedback to Shift Supervisors on the teammate's performance.
  • Support positive relationships with hospital stakeholders by understanding and addressing departmental concerns and needs.
  • Assists the Shift Supervisor with maintaining appropriate staffing level as circumstances warrant in accordance with HSS and client policies and procedures.
  • Assists the Shift Supervisor with evaluating, documenting, reinforcing and correcting employee performance.
  • Carries out Shift Lead responsibilities in accordance with HSS and client policies,
  • Interacts with local law enforcement and emergency management services as assigned or required.
  • Applies policies and procedures appropriately based on existing circumstances.
  • Reviews employee reports and provides guidance for corrections and/or improvements.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with co-workers, client staff members, other client vendors, visitors and the public.
  • Performs duties of security officer as needed which includes but is not limited to:
    • Provides a visible deterrence to crime, prohibited activities, or suspicious activities in public and non-public areas which may include but are not limited to areas such as the main building, outlying buildings, grounds, parking areas, stairways, tunnels, mechanical areas, or patient treatment areas.
    • Responds quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergency situations.
    • Verbally intervenes during crisis. This includes the functional ability to quickly grasp various situations, develop rapport with emotionally disturbed people, and understand when people are or are not processing information, and be supportive or directive as needed.
    • Ability to physically intervene during crises. This includes the functional ability to physically restrain people, requiring retention of trained knowledge under stress as well as the ability to meet significant physical demands including those of a struggle with someone physically larger and heavier, while making all possible efforts not to inflict injury. It includes the ability to continue to request or direct compliance from people while they are being restrained.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the facility and, where applicable, of multiple facilities.
  • Performs other duties at the direction of or in the absence of the Security Shift Supervisor/Security Facility Supervisor/Security Program Manager.
  • Safely handle and maintain firearm that meets HSS guidelines.
  • Apply HSS' Use of Force Policy appropriately
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • 1 + years of experience in healthcare security or related security industry experience.
  • Prefer IAHSS Basic Officer, Advanced Officer and Supervisor Certifications or must be completed within 6 months.
  • Excellent customer service skills and genuine desire to assist people and provide protection.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English language proficiently.
  • Ability to effectively write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and ability to learn labor management software and security incident management software.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet HSS' driving guidelines if applicable.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any applicable jurisdictional armed security license(s) or certifications and/or client/contract specific licenses or certifications
  • Ability to meet the requirements of a psychological screening assessment conducted by a licensed psychologist.

ARMED (Handgun) QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any applicable local or state license or permit to carry a weapon.
  • Ability to pass the initial and semi-annual HSS approved firearms training course to demonstrate proficiency in use of firearm.
  • Ability to participate and meet the requirements of additional firearms training at the discretion of the firearms instructor.
  • Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of the HSS Firearms Policies.

TASER QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to meet qualification standards when initially placed in a TASER position and annually thereafter.
  • Ability to be exposed to a TASER.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any applicable local or state license or permit to carry a TASER.
  • Ability to participate in and pass additional TASER training at the discretion of the TASER instructor and/or HSS.
  • Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of the HSS Conducted Energy Weapon (TASER), HSS Taser Policy Policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing this job, individual will walk, stand, sit, observe and drive for extended periods of time in various weather conditions; run, climb stairs, and carry fire extinguishers or other emergency equipment; help restrain or lift a person; occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds; frequently required to use hands, handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus; self-motivation and ability to work independent of immediate supervision

Compensation Range: $25.00/hr +shift differential


Compensation is determined by factors like training or experience, work history, geographic location, and travel requirements. The Company complies with all state and local wage and hour laws and the minimum pay range will always be at or above the applicable minimum wage.
