The City of Pasadena's Public Works Department is looking for a Parts Technician to operate the automotive and truck parts facility geared to meet the needs of the City’s Fleet Management division. The Parts Technician will also supervises the support activities of a warehouse worker and perform other related tasks as assigned.

The current vacancy is in our Building Systems and Fleet Management Division of our Public Works Department. The division is responsible for maintaining and repairing the City's fuel-powered fleet which consists of approximately 1,000 vehicles in addition to other pieces of equipment.

The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge in automotive and truck parts and operations. This person must be dependable, take initiative, be an effective problem-solver, resourceful, maintain safety standards, detail-oriented, and technology savvy.

  • Researches, orders, receives issues, and replenishes stock of the City automotive/truck and equipment parts operations.
  • Follows up on back orders, purchase orders, invoices, and requisitions to insure that all stock is received and correct billing documentation is in order for payment.
  • Maintains up-to-date parts catalog library, current vendor lists, and inventory of fast moving parts and tires; stays cognizant of City owned fleet/equipment inventory.
  • Researches availability and procures "difficult to find" or "unique" vehicle replacement parts.
  • Utilizes computerized parts inventory system to search in-house inventory for parts issue.
  • Inputs data regarding parts issuances, parts received, substitute parts, issue frequency, failure analysis, and warranty credit for failed parts or components.
  • Performs weekly inventory cycle counts and periodic inventory maintenance and reconciliation to ensure accuracy and accountability, prepares bids for parts procurement on Planets Bids, tracks available PO balances, makes up assorted hydraulic hoses, and issues tools and manages the tool inventory.
  • Supervises the Assistant Parts Technician in such tasks as receiving, stocking bins, invoice reconciliation and parts room cleaning. Directs a MASH worker when parts need to be picked up and dropped off at vendors.
  • Maintains organization and cleanliness of storage areas and performs general cleaning/housekeeping tasks associated with maintaining warehouse and work areas.
  • Establishes and maintain effective working relationships with management, co-workers, suppliers, and local vendor’s representatives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Five years paid experience as an automotive or truck parts person with experience in ordering for "in-house" stock, vendor-to vehicle procurement, back order follow up, and operation of computerized parts inventory hardware.
SELECTION PROCESS
The tentative selection process will consist of a training and experience evaluation, a written examination, and a department-level interview.

VACANCY INFORMATION
There is currently one full-time vacancy in the Building Systems & Fleet Management Division of the Public Works Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future. Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one-year probationary work period.

Special Requirements

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California Driver's License at the time of appointment and for continued employment.


Effective January 1, 2013, new members to CalPERS or an agency with CALPERS' reciprocity or who have more than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency will be subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and will receive the 2% @ 62 benefit formula.

Employees who are current members of CalPERS or an agency with CalPERS' reciprocity, or who have less than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency and employment with the City will be enrolled in the 2.5% @ 55 benefit formula.

All employees are required to pay the full employee contribution to CalPERS.
