JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for a variety of office/clerical tasks relating to claims processing; contacts patients and responsible parties to resolve past-due accounts; reviews account status and initiates collection.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Identifies accounts with balances as patient responsibility, investigates and corrects errors in claims or balances
  • Review account, and follow-up to retrieve missing account information
  • Answers patient inquiries regarding; services rendered on account, insurance guidelines, and outstanding balances
  • Contacts responsible party to resolve delinquent accounts;
  • Assists patients in setting up payment plans and completes payment plan contracts, and plans and monitors adherence to plans by responsible party
  • Directs accounts to outside collection agencies when necessary.
  • Prepare billing reports to track, identify and resolve account balances
  • Assists with posting daily charges submitted
  • Posts payments to the EMR system
  • Ensures that all payments, adjustments and denials are posted timely and accurately
  • Responds timely to emails and letter correspondence from patients
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years of medical collections experience; preferably in medical family practice
  • Ability to respond to questions in a tactful and professional manner
  • Ability to make basic numerical calculations
  • Computer literate with entry level working knowledge of Microsoft Suites; Outlook, Word
  • Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, coordinate, prioritize, and facilitate many on-going tasks at one time
  • Ability to work independently or with a team
