Job Summary:
The Patient Reception Associate II is an experienced individual who greets and establishes first contact with patients, or performs in a call center capacity. This individual confirms and updates patient demographics and verifies insurance as necessary to ensure that patients have appropriate insurance for physician they are seeing. Mentors or performs as lead to less experienced Associates.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Greets patients either in person or via telephone, and update their insurance/demographics in the practice management system.

2. Ensures that the physician accepts insurance that patients present with. If not already done prior to visit, verifies insurance prior to patient’s arrival or at minimum at time of arrival before visit.

3. Communicates with appropriate staff regarding patient’s arrival, and ensure that patient’s medical record is available for physician.

4. Processes/updates HIPAA-related paperwork and other institutional forms as necessary.

5. Collects or retrieves referrals or insurance authorizations as required.

6. Reviews status of waiting room on a routine basis and ensure that patients are kept advised of wait times.

7. Ensures that patient has paid co-pay or collects co-pay under direction of billing staff, providing patient with receipt following established cash-control processes.

8. May schedule patient for follow-up appointment as needed. Provides patient with guidelines for requesting medical records, if necessary.

9. May perform simple charge entry tasks or enter payments collected from patients.

10. May perform in a call center environment if applicable to assignment.

11. Answers phones for practice and schedule appointments.

12. May perform in a lead capacity and mentors less experienced front desk staff.

13. Follows all HIPAA and any other governmental or state agency requirements regarding the appropriate handling of PHI documents.

14. May initiate reminder phones calls for next day appointments.

15. Other duties as assigned


Education:

High School graduate/GED


Experience:

2-3 years physician practice experience

Preferred: experience in a medical office setting, utilizing a computer system for physician scheduling.

IDX or other practice management exposure preferred.

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $23.4872 - $29.3558 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
