- POSITION SUMMARY
- Under the general supervision of the Director of Materials Management and the direct supervision of the Patient Transportation Manager, the Patient Transporter assists nursing staff in the management of patient care through the transportation of patients between nursing departments and ancillary departments; assists in the delivery of equipment and supplies between support departments and patient care departments
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receives instruction from nursing staff or IKE dispatch to determine appropriate mode of transport for the patient; assists nursing staff in the transfer of patient to/from bed and transport equipment; transports patients to/from nursing and ancillary departments within the Elliot Hospital
- Assists in the transport of patients discharged from the hospital as required.
- Distributes equipment and supplies including wheelchairs, stretchers, scopes, x-rays, specimens, medications, records, and patient supplies or belongings to designated locations.
- Dispatches incoming requests and prioritizes outstanding workload via IKE Transport site; provides requester with estimated time required for completion of request and updates as needed; answers telephone in a professional manner and completes/records all requests received.
- Completes and maintains various department and hospital logs, forms, and other documentation as needed. Sorts, copies, distributes department documentation as directed.
- Cleans and deploys all department equipment daily and after each use, such as wheelchairs, and stretchers; tags and removes from service all defective equipment and notifies Supervisor, Coordinator, or charge person.
- Ensures confidentiality of employee, physician, and legal matters; respects and maintains patient rights and confidentiality at all times.
- Maintains good communications and customer relations skills; establishes and maintains positive teamwork and working relationships with employees, physicians and the public.
- Utilizes complete knowledge of portable oxygen usage and safety for transport of patients.
- Insures clean linens are used for all transport equipment.
- Follows all infection control guidelines and protocols
- REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Ability to work effectively with various communication devices, including telephone, pagers, two way radio, and cell phone.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge of portable O2 usage and safety.
- EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE
- Education: High school diploma or a GED is strongly preferred.
- Experience: No experience necessary. One year of health care or customer service experience desired.

- Schedule: Able to work scheduled hours, which may include 1st and 2nd shift, rotating weekend and holiday schedules. Some overtime required based on workload, volume or critical need situations.
