SUMMARY:

The Payroll Specialist reviews and processes the payment of wages and other

forms of compensation to employees of the Authority. The incumbent is also

responsible for processing payroll payments; adjustments, audits and maintaining

records. In this role exceptional customer service is required to interface with

internal and external clients. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for the

timely response of employee payroll inquiries.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures the accurate processing of wage and other compensation payments.
  • Prepares and enters payroll, labor, and benefits expenses.
  • Compiles and maintains data necessary to calculate and process payments for

annual/sick leave payments.

  • Processes payroll and checks as required.
  • Completes adjustments, audits, and maintains payroll records in accordance

with payroll polices

  • Reviews and updates employee tax and retirement records in accordance with

prevailing tax codes and legislative mandates.

  • Performs research on payroll overpayments and performs the appropriate

corrective action.

  • Maintains employee confidentiality and protects payroll operations by keeping

information confidential.

  • Assists with the preparation of reports of quarterly and calendar-year end

summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable

wages.


  • Assists in the audit process of the Finance Division.
  • Assists staff with payroll inquiries.
  • Assists in the education of supervisors and employees of the payroll software

and rules.

  • Assists with the annual audit process for Finance and Payroll Division.
  • Assists the Finance Division with special projects as assigned.
  • Provides salary and benefit calculations as needed to support the Division of

Human Resources.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

EDUCATION, LICENSE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited school required.
  • A four-year degree from an accredited university in accounting, finance,

business administration or a related field preferred.

  • Four years of relevant experience including at least one year with a utility,

government agency or public service organization required.

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required.
  • Valid Virgin Islands Driver Licensure is required.
  • Certifications in accounting or finance is preferred.
