PATH is urgently seeking an experienced payroll professional to join our Human Resources team as a Payroll Specialist. This position will provide payroll support for our organization's programs throughout California, so excellent interpersonal ability in combination with analytical skills is a must!

WHAT IS A PAYROLL SPECIALIST
As part of the Human Resources team, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for the centralized payroll, and activities related to payroll preparation and processing for three non-profit organizations. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining payroll information by collecting, calculating and entering data.
  • Preparing and processing payroll via vendor software.
  • Final review and coordination of any necessary research and/or contact with the payroll vendor.
  • Reviewing quarterly and annual reports filed by payroll provider; ensuring accuracy & timeliness.
  • Partnering with the Finance and Compliance teams to ensure an accurate & smooth transition of payroll data.
  • Assisting with the preparation of documents for audits.
  • Establishing and maintaining employee records and ensuring that employee changes are entered timely and correctly.
  • Reviewing changes for proper authorization and adherence to policy including compliance with federal/state/local regulations.

WHAT YOU BRING
We're looking for candidates that:

  • In order to succeed in this position, candidates should have experience/knowledge in California Wage and Hour law, FLSA, wage garnishments, payroll tax reporting, payroll calculations, final pay, employment verifications and various payroll year-end processing duties (balancing earnings, taxes and W-2s).
  • Ability to stay current on payroll and taxation policies related to the company by conducting research and compiling information that is readable and accessible.
  • Ability to identify problems and procedural irregularities, collect data, establish facts and draw validconclusions.
  • Ability to establish payroll procedures based on best practices.
  • An almost obsessive attention to detailand accuracy!
  • Ability to be a reliable and collaborative team member of the payroll team.
  • Ability to maintain a consistently positive attitude and courteous phone and email tone
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with changingpriorities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
An excellent candidate for this role will:

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) highly preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources or related field
  • Experience with Microsoft Office preferred. Excel experience a must!

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, we require all candidates:

  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in Payroll

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
Regardless of qualifications, candidates must:

  • Have employment eligibility verification
  • Have or be able and willing to obtain CPR/First Aid training
  • Provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination
  • Successfully complete the following as a condition of hire:
    • Tuberculosis Test
    • Background Screening
    • Drug Test

DRIVING
Driving is an essential function of this position. To meet the employment requirements for this role, all candidates must:

  • Have reliable transportation
  • A valid driver's license
  • Proof of insurance and ownership for personal vehicles used during work duties
  • The ability to qualify for PATH's insurance coverage

COVID-19 VACCINATION
Effective 11/01/2021 PATH will require all employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. All prospective hires will be expected to provide proof of full vaccination as part of the pre-employment credentialing process.

PATH is a California employer. Therefore, all regular and customary work must be performed within the state. Approval for work outside of the office, does not establish approval for work to be conducted outside of California.
